I am planning to buy N97, too. I am reading the posts and many are complaning about "scratched lens".
What should I do to avoid scracthing it, when I purchase the phone? Is there any way to prevent this when moving the lens cover up and down?
???

Buy a cheap screen protector, cut it to size and stick it over the lens. Cheap simple solution ![]()
Whats worked for me so far is to keep the phone clean, away from sand, grit, salt etc. I also keep it in a nokia CP-265 pouch when not in use.
Various reports suggest that the problem doesn't affect all N97's so maybe it's been fixed in current hardware?

Personally, if I were you, I would wait another month before going for an N97.
Some users have issues with the lens cover scratching the lens, some have issues with GPS reception and many have issues with the firmware. Even after v11 there are numerous problems (like the new email indicator staying on even when there is no new email, the lock bug still being present in some situations, etc.)
There are rumors of a major new firmware update pencilled in for late Aug / early Sept and I would wait for that and see what it brings if I didn't already have an N97.

DO NOT press on the cover to slide it. Flick it with your fingernail
