Hidden original themes and ringtones on N70.

Hi, I acces my Nokia N70 memory through my pc's bluetooth connection.
I can see all the files, but where are the preinstalled Nokia Themes and ringtones.
Even the downloaded Themes from the Nokia WAP site I can't seem to find when brwosing the phone, yet they are available in the themes icons.

Did download some ringtones from the wap sites...these I can acces normally.

But where are the preinstalled themes+ringtones and downloaded themes?

You'll need a 3rd party File Manager Application like FExplorer in order to see all of your phone's system files. If you use PC Suite or the Nokia file manager you will be limited to viewing only a number of certain 'safe' directories. Having said that, the Nokia file managers will prevent you from causing any potential harm to your handset by, say, accidentally deleting a crucial system file.

Preinstalled ringtones are stored in:
Z:\Nokia\Sounds\Digital
Z:\Nokia\Sounds\Simple

Where Z: is FExplorer's reference to the phone's ROM memory.

Preinstalled Themes are located in:

Z:\System\skins

Each theme will be stored in its own directory called something like 101f84b9 or similar. Each directory will contain 3 files, *.mbm, *.mif and *.skn, these 3 files should all have the same name which may or may not be the title of the theme. e.g. Series60Skin.mbm, Series60Skin.mif and Series60Skin.skn

There will also be corresponding ini files stored in the phone's memory: C:\System\skins e.g. 101f84b9.ini in C:\System\skins\101f8b49

Downloaded themes can either be stored in phone memory:
C:\System\skins

or be stored on your phone's removable memory card:
E:\System\skins

In the case of downloaded themes you will only see *.ini, *.mbm and *.skn files, there is no *.mif file.

Re: Hidden original themes and ringtones on N70.

Thanks for the info,

So this means that you cannot uninstall preinstalled themes or ringtones......and what about third party ones and the ones you download from the Nokia wap site.

Is there a way like I did with my 6230i and delete these when I want? Or are these installed for good...unless I delete using the program you mentioned?

Re: Hidden original themes and ringtones on N70.

It's a good point actually. Once you have installed a theme with an .SIS file it does not appear in the 'installed applications' list. There is also no option to delete themes in the Theme Manager window.

So once you install a theme, unless you use a 3rd party App, there is no way to remove it!

Re: Hidden original themes and ringtones on N70.

if you install a theme with a .sis file, dont forget to goto C or E drive / system / install and delete it there as well as the 'skin' directory. all takes up valuable space on phone or memory card

Re: Hidden original themes and ringtones on N70.

Hi,

most propable reason for this is that the files are protected using OMA DRM which prevents you from seeing the files and also following things are not possible: backup and copy. Usually all the content you buy or is preinstalled on your Nokia phone is protected, so only you can use the content such as ring tones, themes and so on.

In other words: if content is protected then it can only be accessed with the phone.

Hope this helps.

Hi!

From N70 help:

Due to copyright protection, you may not be able to copy some themes to or from your device memory or memory card.

To delete a theme, scroll to it, and press C. You cannot delete the pre-installed themes or downloaded themes curretly in use

So it is possible to delete unprotected themes...

Do u mean once we delete the theme, we have to go here and delete these files too? or are you saying once we install and want to keep the theme, we should delete the file from where you have quoted? I have only been deleting the .sis file from my message received box. But would like to save extra memory if i can.

Hi, I think Wolfy is right.
When you install stuff on the phone memory and sometimes on the mmc.....the instalation files will be put in the "install folder". Deleting it will save space.

i meant once you have deleted the theme etc, remove the instalation file too, that'll save valuable space.
