You guys should optimize the N97 for phone calls. I suggest you consider relocating the answer, send and end keys to the center of the phone. As is they are placed horrid. It’s almost impossible for anybody to answer a call while driving. Even if you're not driving its still very difficult for us to answer the phone with one hand without dropping it. Our thumbs must reach too far down thus the weight at the top of the phone makes it flip forward out our hands.
Pay close attention to the most highly phrased smart phones ever. The Palm Treo & your very own E-71. Look where the answer send and end keys are placed (center of the phone). Come on, this is not rocket science. Just make the layout of your touch screen device optimize for finger placement particularly when sending/receiving phone calls & text messages. Maybe you could even give us the ability to do it ourselves. That would be even cooler.
just my £0.2
PS. Now I know many will argue that you should not use your phone while driving (this is true) but do you honestly believe everybody who owns this device is going to purchase a car kit?

When most western countries make it illegal to use a phone without a handsfree kit whilst driving, why would any manufacturer make it easy to break the law? People always argue that they should have the freedom to decide for themselves, but they still try to sue the companies when they crash their cars and break numerous bones.
And what about the poor child who just happens to be walking along the street with his/her frail old granny when you career off the road because you're concentrating on your phone and not your driving? Buy a handsfree kit and stop expecting Nokia to implicate itself in your crimes!

It was a joke. My point is still the same. When a call comes in I still feel the answer button should be where it’s easy to reach. Like just about everybody else’s is smartass.

It’s not that it can't be done. All I'm suggesting is that they make it easier. The next time you hold the phone turn off the screen, hold it in your hand & notice where your thumb is. That’s where the answer key should be. "Look", this is a touch screen device, unlike hardware buttons navigation can be more natural so long as you pay attention to peoples natural instincts and occurrences. IMO Symbian OS was laid out perfectly for non touch screen devices like the E-71. Pick one up and its so natural that its hard to put it down. It’s obvious to me that Nokia is new to the world of touch screens so my advice to them is; don’t be shy. Copy Palm OS and improve on it like Apple did.
Look where it got them.

yes it is too far down, looks to have been designed to be held in 1 hand and answered with the other
No, you should not hold the phone when driving, £3 phone holder from tesco will hold it to your dash vents, then one finger to answer a call and put on speakerphone, Done handsfree for £3

Better yet, get a car with BT controls in the steering wheel that way you don't even need to touch the device.

Maybe a car stereo that has this is enough ![]()
