E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

My keyboard seems to have a mind of its own it only lights up every now and then I tried to search here on this site to see if anyone else had this problem but came up with nothing. Anybody have any ideas about how to fix this? I've been messing with my phone for the past few hours but I wasn't able to come up with anything.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

I am not sure whether it is a problem or not but my backlight comes on sometimes and not others (even when the ambient light hasn't changed). It is a great feature so it would be useful to know more about how it works and whether it is a bug or not.

Thanks - any idea where the sensor is? I may have had my hand or finger blocking it as you say...

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

I don't know but if anyone knows where the ambient light sensor is it would be helpful. I have tried using my phone in complete darkness but the keys still do not light up. I put a screen protection sticker over the screen that is the only thing I have done to this phone. My backlights still do not work.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

It should pointed out in the manual in the first sections. From what i know there should be a drawing of your phone with numbers or arrows on allthe buttons, connectors and stuff. You should be able to find it there.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

Tried to look in the manual and couldn't find anything dealing with the location of the light sensor. There is a vague discription of the display light sensor setting where is says "Adjust the amount of light required to illuminate the device display" but that only seemed to control the brightness of the screen. I tried to mess around with that in a pitch black room and come up with nothing. If someone was able to figure out what is wrong with the backlight some help would be appreciated.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

Hey,

My E61 also has a messed up keyboard backlight. It won't light up under any circumstances. Even when the sensor is totally covered, it will not respond. Phone has been hard reset as well. I'm guessing it's a software/firmware problem since a lot of users are reporting same issue. Please advise.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

Hi All,

If you change the settings under the 'settings' --> 'phone' --> 'display' and change the 'light time out' (upwards) and the 'power saver time out' (upwards), then this should sort the problem. The phone lights up in dark light and goes dim in bright light.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

:squint:^ That does not fix the issue, the settings are default.

I have another e61 so I can verify the settings are identical, while one e61's backlight does not work.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

I am also having the same problems but my light works when it wants to. I have changed the display settings with no success. I think the sensor is the joystick. One day I was playing with it and when I was covering the joystick completely my backlight was flickering.

Is someone from Nokia going to help us with this problem? I am another user who this has happened to...my backlight just suddenly went out with no type of warning or remedy.

Re: E61 Keyboard backlight problem.

Nokia doesn't seem to care at this point. I'm having this problem from the start when I bought the phone. The service center first returned it saying its okay. Then a couple days later it happened again, and they said that during production some dirt comes over the light sensor. Now it done again and I don't know what excuse they'll give this time. Very frustrating, after spending so much money on this phone. I can't give it for fixing as I can't live without it now!

By the way, the light sensor is IN THE LIGHT (the one that blinks when you have new e-mail)! For those of you for whom the keyboard light works, put your thumb over it for a few seconds, and the keyboard will light up.
