Dual Sim, using 2 sims at the same time...?

Ive got a N70 and need a specific solution to using two sim cards in the same phone.

Ive been researching dual sim arrangments recently and wonder if anyone has had any experience with the folloing please....

I have a normal personal O2 sim card that I use 99%$ of the time but I also have a Orange PAYG sim card which is my work contact. I very, very rarley need to call out using my work sim, but would like to know when work is calling me on my work sim.

So I found a company called http://www.speedsafe.co.uk/category.php?id=29 and when I called them they reckon that id your using one sim card and someone calls on the other sim, the call gets through....! Im slightly dubious that ths works and would appreciate any comments or ideas. (They also said that they have problems getting the dual sim to work with 3G phones. Something to do with STK sim application...?)

Most dual SIM setups only allow 1 SIM at a time to work. When you turn the phone off and on again then the second SIM becomes active and the first is turned off. No phone that I know off allows 2 SIMS to be active at the same time so your need will not be satisfied!

Re: Dual Sim, using 2 sims at the same time...?

Hi andyh

I currently use a 13th generation dual SIM holder in N70 and as another poster suggested you can set up a call divert to your Orange PAYG, but as two the SIMs are in the phone you can restart it on Orange from phone interface to call out if you wish. You don't have to do a full reboot but it probably takes about 30 seconds to switch over.

If I understand it correctly even if some dual SIM holders say 3G compatible you may not be able to make a GPRS data connection.
Happy to have helped the forum in a small way from 2007-10

Re: Dual Sim, using 2 sims at the same time...?

This is probably blasphemy saying these words in a Nokia forum but the Samsung D880 has the ability to use 2 sim cards at the same time.
It works pretty well too..

Sorry Nokia.

But its about the only phone in the world that supports that feature. Its very, very niche - not many people have such a requirement. For most people the line 1/2 feature is more than adequate.

To properly support 2 sims, the Samsung has dual RF circuitry built in, its expensive to do, both for cost and power consumption.

Re: Dual Sim, using 2 sims at the same time...?

Its more common then you may think to need such a phone.
There is a huge need for people needing 2 phones.
Many companies now give company phones to their workers and they are not allower to make personal calls on those phones so the people have to carry 2 phones with them and that can be annoying and in practical.

So a phone to allow 2 sims, even on different networks, is a big demand and im suprised Nokia havnt followed Samsung in providing this.

But of course i can see why they wouldnt, buying 2 phones rather then 1 is better for profits.

Re: Dual Sim, using 2 sims at the same time...?

I've been in that situation where I was carrying my own phone, the works phone, as well as a Blackberry for e-mail.

Yes, there is a market for it, but its still small compared to the mobile phone market as a whole.

Say if you bought yourself an N82 on one network, would you be happy to give that up if your employer gave you a D880? Or what if the corporate policy was for phones locked to Vodafone, you wouldn't be able to do anything with your Orange/O2/T-mob/whoever SIM card.

No i wouldnt be happy to go from Nokia to Samsung, and i remain a loyal Nokia user, have been for about 8 years!
I would like to see Nokia produce a handset that can do this feature, that will be a phone worth getting.
