Difference between SOFT and HARD reset of 5800

In order not to mislead people:

Soft Reset

The reset will restore all the phone’s settings to factory default and delete all user info. You need to use the dialer to enter this code.

*#7370#

Hard Reset

Hard reset only works if you had previously updated the phone to v20. Please make backup before applying this type of reset, since it will restore the phone’s settings as well as erasing all the data in the phone memory.

1. Switch off the phone.
2. Press GREEN + RED + CAMERA + ON simultaneously until you see the “Select Country” option.

Note:

1. The default password is 12345 if you didn't set another. You need to press and hold the keys until the number appear ((for versions 20 and older)) , after v.20 it'll show num pad.
2. Please do not confuse “revert to factory settings” with soft reset. “Revert to factory settings” can be achieved from Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone mgmt. > Factory settings or *#7870# code, and will only restore the phone to its factory setting without deleting data.

Re: Difference between SOFT and HARD reset of 5800

Another pointless post there zoro06.

The N series board is for answering peoples problems. it is not the correct place to post pointless guides.

Also this topic has been covered many times and shows up in searches. It has also been posted on the Pool of Knowledge board in the past.

Please stick to relevant posting in future.

Re: Difference between SOFT and HARD reset of 5800

Hi there!  :smileyhappy:

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get this information? Actually no offense but the information you provided is misleading customers already. I would just want to correct the information but I hope I wont be redundant....

SOFT RESET is same as with the native restore factory settings in the Phone (Menu > Settigns > Phone > Phone Management > Factory Settings), doing the soft reset will actually not erase any personal information on the phone it will just clear all the personalisation you did in the past, the code for this is not *#7370# for this is the hard reset, the real code for soft reset is *#7780#, same default security code if you didn't change it 12345.

HARD RESET is the one being illustrated in the picture that is if the you don't know the security code of your phone (just incase you've change it in the past) and the code for this is *#7370#... once this is done, this will actually erase all the information of your phone....

Hope tis' help!

Re: Difference between SOFT and HARD reset of 5800

This is exactly the type of information that should go on a wiki.

And not, as others have stated in a discussion forum (this here).

Re: Difference between SOFT and HARD reset of 5800

Please make backup before applying this type of reset, since it will restore the phone’s settings to factory default as well as erasing all the data in the phone memory.

1st option

Soft Reset (when you CAN still use the phone's touchscreen)

  1. You need to use the touchscreen dialer to enter this code: *#7370
  2. Press Select.
  3. Voila, your phone is back to normal.
  4. Congratulations.

Last option

Hard Reset (if you CANNOT use anymore the phone's touchscreen)

  1. You need to use the phone's buttons and your 4 fingers to do this trick. :smileywink:
  2. Switch off the phone. (Remove the battery if you cannot turn it off)
  3. Press the buttons: GREEN + RED + CAMERA + ON simultaneously (DO NOT LET GO OF THE BUTTONS) until you see the “Select Country” option after the Nokia's Handshake Welcome Logo appear.:smileysurprised:
  4. Choose your country, enter the date and time.
  5. Voila, your phone is back to normal.
  6. Congratulations.
Note:
If you were asked for a code, just type: 12345 (unless you change it):smileysad:
