Hello Everyone ![]()
I was wondering; the other day I was talking on the phone and my battery was so low that the phone shut itself off.
Is there any "Automatic Shutdown" procedure by the software behaviour when the battery is depleted, or simply, literally the phone just goes dead???
Also, if the phone turns itself off when the battery is depleted, would it damage any "System Files" or any other important files that would cause phone not to function properly?
Does anyone know this procedure? Does this ever happen to you? I mean depleting the battery while talking on the phone and the phone turn itself off, or just goes dead?
I am talking about N96 & N97s. Thank you.

Don't know about the N97 but on the N96, if you are mid call, the phone just goes dead. It has happened to me a few times without any side effects but I don't intend to make a habit of it. It is best to say your good byes once the phone start beeping low battery.
Also, lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries have to have a minimum critical voltage before it can be recharged. If you use your phone till the very end, you run the risk of ending up with an unrechargeable battery.

You are right. On N96 you better say goodbye quick of you get the warning for low battery. The phone doesn't give you much time once it starts warning you. This wasn't the case on my N95 8GB.

Yes, N95 8GB had different, more powerful battery. You could still talk a little even when there was only 1 bar on battery meter.
I was almost in the mid battery level, then all of a sudden N96 went dead. Once the level goes below mid level, the battery dies very fast. Not a very accurate battery indicator that the N96 has. Don't you think?
On the other side N97s battery indicator looks more like N95 8GBs.

By the way, once the battery went dead and phone switched off, after I charged it fully, the phone seemed to perform even better, it seemed like it was faster. Weird, right? May be it's just me.

I never trust the battery bars on the phone. Anything below half is time to charge for me. Regular topping up charge is not a problem for the lithium batteries.
Strange you should mention about the phone being faster after a charge. Its more likely that it is faster before it was restarted after going dead. ![]()

Yeah, you're probably right. ![]()

With the n97 the handset gives a warning in the form of a bleep, then eventually it just switches off ungracefully.
How much time do you have left when you get the first warning bleep?

I think it depends on what your doing on the phone, I was making calls and I think it lasted around 30 mins. But if in standby I would expect it to last longer. I was also using fw v12 at the time, not tried it with v20 yet.

I agree with what cjlim and sockatume have said so I have nothing to add to this thread.
