Hi - I was wondering if anybody could help please ?
I've got a N97 which I've had around 180 messages in my Inbox and Sent Items which used the mass memory (E drive) to store the messages on.
I did a backup of the device on the phone via the File Manager application, and did a reinstall of the firmware.
Although the reinstall of the firmware didn't touch the music stored on the mass memory it appears to have deleted the messages I had stored, and unfortunately the backup doesn't appear to have stored the messages ...
Does anyone know if there is anyway of accessing/retrieving the messages which should hopefully still be on my E drive please ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi ak3_ltw - Number of messages was already 999, and yes I do have a memory card in my phone but the messages are definitely not on the memory card - they were on mass memory (E drive). Phone has also been restarted many many times since then without any success.
I backed up my messages by going to Applications->Office->File Manager->Backup and backing everything up there.
What I should of done was use either PC Suite or Ovi Suite to take a backup also but was in a haste to reinstall the firmware so missed out this step
I have tried to look at the files on the E drive to see whether the messages are stored anywhere on the E drives as files, but can't find anything anywhere related to messaging

Ok, I had to try it out.
1. I had 1 message on C: and did a backup in filemanager. It backed up on F: on default. - I deleted the message on C: and restored the backup. My message got back. ![]()
2. If I deleted my message on C: and had 1 message on E: and did a backup - it also stored the backup on F: by default. - I set my message memory to E: and restored. - No message to see. - Cause it told me it would restore the backup to phonememory (C: ). I changed the messagememory to C: - but could not find any message.
As I can see, the backupprogram only backs up messages from C....

I had 1 message on C: did a backup in filemanager and deleted the message. Then I changed messagememory to E: (where I had no messages) and did a restore of the backup. Guess what!? - There were no message on either C: or E:.
It looks like it only backups from C: , and it can only restore the backup if you have set your messagememory to C:
So, I guess your messages which were on E: are lost![]()

Hi Fender77 - thanks for checking.
I'm hoping that the issue of the backup program not backing up messages that are stored on mass memory will be resolved in the next firmware release, however given the firmware reinstall didn't delete my music which is also on my mass drive, I'm hoping that the messages are stored somewhere on the mass memory in text file(s) which can be recovered and it's just a case of the messaging application not re-indexing the messages after the firmware reinstall ...

Yep - tried that and couldn't find anything - but I know that some folders etc. are hidden and was wondering if anyone knew the exact folder in which the messages are stored ...
The messages must be logically stored somewhere on the mass memory - what I'm worried about is that they're probably not stored in a human readable format

No problem - thanks for trying ![]()
You did everything I have done, so if anything has been missed, we've both missed it ! ![]()
I'm hoping someone will point me in the direction of where these messages are located on mass memory ![]()
