Can anyone help????
I purchased a Nokia N97 approx 6 weeks ago, I am now up to handset number 4 and am about to take it back AGAIN!!!
I am continuously having problems with the phone freezing, black/blue screens, "unable to use/access functions" coming up on screen, when switching off phone it goes through all the applications I have had opened before it turns off, just to name a few.
These are just a few issues that I have been having and continue to have with the handsets. I love using the N97 and am quite happy to keep using it, but am starting to think it is not a reliable phone at all and unfortunately I signed up to a 2 year contract.
I have gone online on numerous occasions and checked for software updates and nothing comes up on my phone, so I assume that the phone has the latest software. If anyone has any solutions to my problems can you please let me know as I am not gettig any help from Nokia or my service provider.
Thank you

firstly what firmware are you on ... to access this you need to do *#0000#
the latest for most is 20.0.019
if you are on 20.0.019 to make the phone more stable I would suggest the following as I find my phone is perfectly usable now .... if your on a less firmware it will still work and will give you 60mb of free c drive memory plus "It should" sort out your other issues
Formatted the E Drive so its clean
Backup your phone (contents etc)
Turn your phone off
then HARD RESET the phone by pressing caps, space, delete keys and turn the phone on
Keep all these keys pressed till you get the country selection menu..
this method it appears non of the rubbish a mobile phone company loads onto the phone
Check your installed files to see if anything else is installed on c drive if it is do usual and uninstall
Change where to store messages. Please use E for that. Reinstall contacts and messages. Reboot
Make a musicfolder on E:, and try to avoid lots of folders inside of the musicfolder. You should have all the musicfiles in 1 musicfolder.
Store your pics on E:
After you have had your device connected to pc as massmemory - you will need to set your messagememory to E - once again. (every time)
You should update music and picture library and reboot.
Go a head and install your apps - but please store everything that's possible to E.

how do you make sure that applications are installed on mass memory?

For the memory card issue:
1. Use an external SD/SDHC reader and copy out all ure data's from the memory card.
2. As the oldskool DOS method .. C:\Format <memorycarddriveletter> Example: C:\Format E: (press enter) .. wait for 100% .. Format the memory card using FAT32 or alternatively, goto Windows Explorer -> Right click on the F drive -> Choose Format -> Choose FAT32 and select FULL FORMAT (Dont Use Quick Format!)
Finally, move back ure old backed up data to the SD card and ure phone will work properly again, Insert into device and turn ON.

there are many many posts on the forum about saving/recovering memory on C (the phone memory) If you have swopped so often I doubt you need to format E (32 gig memory) unless you've filled it every time you changed. The main way to get N97 working well is to remove anything you can from C, apps, tones, pictures messages etc, and re-install on E.Clear privacy data on browser on a regular basis and ( as mentioned before) store all uour messages on E. Messaging-options-other-memory in use, select E-Mass memory. Also check software updates on phone(in Applications folder) and only install things you really need (memory re-organiser may be available)and if you use Ovi store, set your account settings to download and install to E. If you can keep your ram between 40 and 50 meg, phone should run smoothly. Do a little research on the forum for more advice, and try installing a task manager to help you see what's going on in your phone.
Good Luck
