Hello everyone
I've woken up this morning to find out that events on my calender are not displayed on my home screen anymore
If i go under the home screen settings i can not even find Calender to tick it anymore.
What could go wrong?
My Nokia 5800 is brand new (only a week old with newest firmware) and i'm sycing my calender with the one in Outlook.
Please help me. Thank you very much indeed. Kind regards

May i ask what will happen to my Navigation license if i do the soft reset (*#7370#)? Will it still be there after i've restored things from my backup?

Hello!
this also append to me this week!
and last week was the email shortcut!
and I think that is completely stupid to soft reset the phone each time this occurs!
because the issue is a bit more deep...
because these "things" just didn't disapeared from the desktop! These two also disapeared from the menu where you activate it!!!
before I hade 6 options there "shortcuts" "search" "music player" "radio" "agenda" and "email"
now these last two are just gone!
and it was really over night! meaning without any instalation or any other thing!
I really hate to do a soft reset, or a firmware update, because the I have to re-install and configure and personalize everything....
So, is there any way to get this back working???
Thanks
Tiago

I have done a little more investigation on the issue with my Nokia 5800, and I was able to reproduce the problem four times already as follows:
* I navigated to "Messaging" then accessed "Hotmail" inbox.
* I tried to "Disconnect" from mail server so that I can change the Email Retrieval Settings (phone will not allow changing the settings without disconnecting from the mail server).
* While trying to disconnect, the phone hangs and after 10 minutes of wait time I powered down the phone.
* I then Powered up the phone again. 1st time the "Calendar" disappeared from the Home screen. So I checked the "Settings"/"Personal"/"Home Screen" and the Calendar is no longer an option to select. Available only "Shortcuts"/"Search"/"Music Player"/"Radio".
* I followed then Nokia Support Rep's instructions to reset the phone. It then restored the FW to its original state, i.e., now the Calendar is back to being an option to select and thus displayed at "Home Screen".
* Anyway, I tried the above process Three times afterwards and yet time after time the issue did occur on all attempts (readily reproducible).
* This time the "Shortcuts" disappeared from the "Home Screen" instead of the "Calendar". So once again, I checked the "Settings"/"Personal"/"Home Screen" and the "Shortcuts" is no longer an option to select. Available only this time "Search"/"Music Player"/"Radio"/"Calendar".
It seems that for some reason, after a while, the connection to the email server gets stuck and the phone freezes. At this point the screen gets locked and the only way around it is to restore the phone to its original factory state (via *#7370# or by pushing the red/green/camera and power buttons simultaneously) after which I lose my data and customized settings including some downloaded apps!!
This seems to be an instability issue with the Nokia 5800 firmware.

That the calendar disappears from the home screen is the reason I will buy a new non-nokia phone within the next month (iphone or android nexus or hero). Syncing with Exchange is the reason I have a "smartphone".
This bug has existed all the time for 5800, and although I have updated the firmware in the 5800 twice in the meantime, the bug is not fixed. Nokia really deserves to loose the smartphone race. I cannot understand why Nokia cannot fix this. I can accept bugs, but I expect the vendor to fix serious bugs within a reasonable time-frame.
Everytime I upgrade the firmware, I loose all the applications, I mostly use SportsTracker and Nokia Map (now Ovi-map). SportsTracker is the ONLY application I will miss.
Is there anyone out there that can say that if you want a smartphone, you should have a Nokia????? I really do not understand what Nokia is doing?
It is obvious that IPHONE is winning, since all the other vendors screw up

I can confirm that disconnecting from my hotmail account causes the phone to freeze or hang and the home screen to become unusable. I've had my 5800 for a couple weeks now and have encountered the broken home screen 3 times and have had to perform resets each time.
I have noticed that when the basic or shortcuts home screen is broken the contacts home screen will work. However, this does not change the fact that the messaging application freezes when disconnecting from a hotmail account.

This is because they changed the menu on the bottom. Goto Settings, Personal, Home Screen, Home Screen theme and change to Short Cuts bar. This puts the bar on top and fixes it. ![]()

Hi,
I have recently had the same problem with my phone.
I few days ago I removed Nokia Messaging because it had issues sending emails and used the original email the phone came with. This worked fine except that if you have it download emails for you it downloads your entire mailbox and not just the recent stuff and there is no option to automatically remove them. Not that I noticed anyway.
For a few days I had no problem, then my calendar/email notification disappeared from the home screen. I rebooted the phone and the home screen shortcuts disappeared and were unresponsive. I tried reinstalling the firmware, but it didn't help.
After reading online there are many suggestions to reset the phone to factory settings, but I noticed a comment that the errors can be caused by a problem with email.
I deleted my email mailbox and my Home Screen immediately returned to normal.
Hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.
