A big part of my decision to go with an N8 was that everyone was saying that Symbian^3 would support CalDAV. Now I have my N8, but I can't find any place that allows me to set up a CalDAV calendar. Is this something that hasn't made it into the OS yet? It's possible that the capability is there and I just don't know how to set it up, but I've searched all over the internet and can't seem to find much talk about this feature at all. Anyone know what the status is with CalDAV on Symbian?

Wife's iPhone 4 has caldav. Was able to get it to sync with the Yahoo calendar of her email account. Got her Yahoo calendar to sync with my Yahoo calendar so that I can @ least use the web page based entry for a group calendar. I can't get the N8 phone based calendar to sync with anything other than OVI. I can read the shared calendar but cant write to them. Phone based only is very restrictive. Have seen any evidence of caldav in Symbian^3. Happy for someone to show me how ![]()

Yes, Apple has long been a proponent of caldav, and with my iPhone 3G I was able to connect to both Yahoo and Google calendars using caldav. It seems as though caldav was being integrated into Symbian^3, but somehow didn't make it into the latest release. I have not yet heard of anyone connecting to a caldav server with a symbian phone. I don't know if it just wasn't ready yet, or if work on it somehow stopped. I hope it will appear in a later release of symbian. In the meantime, symbian phones can connect at least to Google Calendar using Mail for Exchange:

Unfortunately, you can only sync one calendar this way, but it's better than nothing. I do hope there are more calendar options in the future as well, since Ovi Calender isn't incredibly useful at the moment without any import/export or other sync features.

Have you sync'd your N8 calendar to Google Calendar?
Overall I've been quite happy with the N8. Nokia does hide the settings a lot though. Guess I'm used to the N95 (a very good phone indeed). Must admit to spending more time on this calendar sync issue than anything else. I'm thinking using Google Calendar you have suggested will be the only way I can sync calendars with the rest of the family. Kids both have nokias and the wife an iphone 4. Getting the 4 mobiles to sync "over the air" is my issue. Thanks for the heads up jdar... Cheers

Looking for caldav on C7 too. Found some evidence that the contribution has been running in Symbian^3 here:

and here:

but this guy:
http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-calendar-2-0/su
says Nokia "haven't yet determined where to apply it".
Development seems to have halted at a known issue, with contributed patch though:

I'd recommend the Symbian project to fix this ASAP. This gap is even more frustrating given the fact that the calendar app suppots multiple calendars. There is no real replacement now that the SyncML support from S60 has been replaced with Ovi Sync, or is there?

Here's a quite good discussion that you've all probably found already ![]()

It is not clear . Is there a caldav client for N8 ?

So far it looks like the answer is no. We can only hope caldav support is added in the future.

I'd like to buy C7 or N8, but support of CalDAV is crucial for me.
Nokia, you forces me to buy other brand of phone, WAKE UP, PLEASE, and bring us CalDAV! Many people recommend me Anroid (which I refuse due to tight binding to Google) and I don't want to end up with iPhone (even if it feels very usable in my hands, but CalDAV surprisingly does not work as good as expected)...

I talked to a few developers within Nokia. They confirmed there are no plans to support Caldav in Anna or any future releases of Symbian. Looks like its time to move on to the Android ecosystem - Samsung Galaxy S II perhaps. It will be a while before WP7 matures on Nokia hardware. Pity, the N8 works well otherwise.
