N78 new firmware 30.014\30.011 (depends on product code\region) is not available yet via FOTA,

when it is available then i recommend updating via FOTA using GPRS or Wireless connection (Faster)

Sorry for the stupid question but what exactly is FOTA and why it is better to update Wireless than with a USB cable? And yes i am talking about the latest 30.011 firmware although now with my 12.046 i don't have any problems at all...

Re: Best way to update firmware?

are you kidding....you have v.12.046!!!

there is 3 firmwares updates after 12.046

13.XXX....>21.002.....>30.011\30.014

but its better that you didn't update to 21.002,its the worst firmware,

updating via FOTA( firmware over the air) downloads only the new files but the update using USB downloads the whole firmware, therefor FOTA is smaller than USB (In size).

Re: Best way to update firmware?

Thanks for the answers, and yes it's not a joke i am with 12.046 and i don't have any problems with it.This for me is also very strange since i red in the forum for so many bugs in this firmware but NONE of them apply to me(i have no idea why).Just one last question- how would i know when 30.011 is availabe via FOTA?

Re: Best way to update firmware?

i don't know yet because the 30.011\30.014 has been released 2 days ago, so you will have to wait sometime.

from time to time check for updates by *#0000# ,maybe you are lucky enough to get your updates as soon as possible.

but remember to backup all your files with PC suite before you update(remove your memory card also....just in case)

Re: Best way to update firmware?

After bug the two last week with PC Suite, now, it is the Firmware update method which is dangerous.

N78 firmware update USB method: very strange:  The Nokia Software Updater has lost the connection USB whith Nokia N78 (last firmware before 30.)

And now, i have a very usefull Black screen when i start my professional smartphone.

Thanks Mr. NOKIA. I am very happy.

131 Mb to download, and lost usb connection twice.

Do you know some procedure to recover my N78 again ??

Thanks.

Re: Best way to update firmware?

BTW you can only update to the latest released firmware avaliable for  your product code. it will not allow you to chose firmware updates but will pull up the most recent one to update your phone with. it is always recommended to update with the latest firmware as it removes the bugs, optimizes battery life and os.

Re: Best way to update firmware?

Nokia seems to be comitted to improve the user experience... Its really good to know that... They have to do it to survive... BTW Nokia N78 latest firm ware is a little better. The operations seems to be fast.

It has just been a day with the firmware.. So far no problem... I faced a few problems while updating the USB get disconnected when the update is about to begin... but the latest software update program has all required warning... It asked me to restart my pc and my cell phone... And try again ... I did it Alas it worked ... got it updated ...

I found a few things new :

The icons for videos (The one in old version was better) and search are all new.

I am from india. I brought this phone seeing the FM transmitter option. But after i brought the phone i found it missing.

But with this software update i got the option under the music menu :-) thanks a lot nokia.

Few problems with the camera still remains... music volume has come down a bit... the gps seems to be working a little faster.
