Hello all,
Now let me start by saying I have had the Nokia 5800 just over a month now and I think it is a great phone. Looks good, easy to use, practical, etc.
Only now it seems to have a small problem. The backlight does not seem to want to turn off, either when I lock the phone or if I leave the phone for several minutes.
Also the lock slide button on the side can be temperamental. At times it does not work, then some times it will work and other times it will register it is being pressed but not unlock the phone, I would just get the message "use keygaurd switch to unlock screen".
The backlight does however turn off if I hold my phone to my ear when taking a phone call.
A few times the phone has restarted itself, slowly fading out and whilst doing so going very sketchy, (lines would appear on the phone screen)
I have restored factory settings but with no success.
Anyone got any solutions or have had these problems and found out what causes them? I have read a few topics but with not much success on a solution.
Many thanks in advance,
Bill

Check your Phone Settings:
- Settings
- Phone
- Display
- Light time-out
Here you can set the length of time before the backlight times out.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have done this, and changed it from 5 seconds to 60 seconds, and vice versa many times, but with no avail.

Sorry to say that I have no other recommendation for you.
Other than backing everything up and reinstalling the firmware. I had to do this 2-3 times the first two weeks I had my 5800 and have not had to do it since.

No worries, thanks for your time and help. I will try backing up the software. If not a trip back to the store will be in order.
Unless anyone else has any ideas?

i just got my nokia 5800 2 weeks ago and it was working fine. then when i locked the phone, i noticed that the display did not turn off, and when i unlock my phone, the brightness level was at minimum. i made sure that i saved my brightness at its maximum, and i made sure that the phone is not on "power save". i even restored my phone to its factory setting. (default setting)
please help!. i feel really bad for what had happend.21-Apr-2009 02:32 PM
Right sent my Nokia 5800 off from a Nokia Care point to be repaired after it turned into a vibrator... I tried backlogging the firmware then updating to v20.x.x but the Nokia turned itself off during the process. After leaving it for about an hour to see if this was suppose to happen I then followed to following the on screen instructions, but when it came to turning my phone on it just vibrates for 20 seconds without a light comming on or anything... meh..
In waiting for my 5800, hopefully fixed, iwas wondering is there a theme or an application that would let me have more than 4 shortcuts on the home page or 4 contacts? Also any good websites for useful applications or themes?
Many thanks guys!

Hard reset, unfortunately... Though it won't stop the fading then resetting. Mine still does that a couple of times a week.
Hate to state the obvious but remove your sim when you do the hard reset. Being a genius, when I did it (because the phone turned itself off, then froze on the Nokia start up logo), I left the sim in and it wiped all my contacts.
