5800XM music transfer problem

Posted this on music forum, but no responses there yet, so I've decided to post it here too. Apologies to those who have already seen the post.

I originally put music on my 5800XM early last using the old Nokia Music interface. I've since moved computers, upgraded firmware, and downloaded the latest OVI player, and I want to transfer music from my phone to computer so I can edit it, add artwork, etc.

Now, the OVI player sees the music on my phone, all listed correctly, but if I try to transfer from phone to PC, it knocks off the first 3 characters of every file and directory name. For example,

"Eric Clapton" becomes "c Clapton"

"Unplugged" becomes "lugged"

"Layla" becomes "la".

Using the OVI transfer functionality, the file system built in the background had the same naming problems, so I thought something was happening at the actual file transfer stage.

Next up I transferred the files to my computer just as regular files, so the files themselves now at least have the correct names. When I try to import them to the OVI player, once again, the first three characters of everything are removed.

I've tried everything I can think of. Any suggestions from you learned folk?
