Hi All. Connected my 5800 up to my PC last night, with a full battery. Set it to x-fer loads of music, came back in the morning.. battery dead! Im wondering if ..

a. Is this normal? All of my other phones have been "charge via USB" so i guess you dont see the high drain.

b. Phones with really poor battery life.. is there some sort of software glitch causing the USB connection to stay active even though the cable is out? Might explain a few problems I have read on the boards here!

The phone being connected to a USB port does use battery power.

A USB connection is an active connection. Data is exchanged between the phone and the computer permanently, and this takes (albeit minimal) processing power and energy.. The beginning of the exchange is how the computer knows the phone has been connected, and the data stopping is how the computer knows the phone has been disconnected.

Sure.. but what if the phone didnt register that the link was down... possibly causing further power drain?

Power is still supplied to the USB subsystem of your computer even when it is switched off. The connection doesn't "look" down to the phone.

Yeah sure.. but if the phone was keeping the USB data connection alive... still find it surprising that the data channel takes so much power!

I find battery drans comparabley a bit faster when the phone is connected to PC by USB transfer mode for a long time.

Even when you use the phone as a modem connected to your PC, it drains much faster.

I setup my phone charger and PC power connections in one multiplug so that during those operations I connect the charger input to my phone.

Yeah, thats a good idea, and im guessing the only solution. Im surprised a phone of this calibre wasnt fitted with USB charge capabilities, but hey, thats something that's been discussed to death

i am haveing a similar problem with my 5800 aswell it uses a full batery up in about 6 hours in standby ?? I put another batery in charged that up fully and again massive drain and its not connected to anything .. Any help would be helpfull the phone is about 7 months old so I dont know the problem

I'm having exactly the same problem with my 5800. The battery drains completely in only 5hrs! The problem occurs as well when connecting via bluetooth.

Hi all.

I'm having a problem a little diferent from yours.

My battery is fine. It last about 3 or 4 days.

The low bat alarm last about 8 to 12 hours until the phone shutdown in normal conditions.

But if the phone is connected to a PC via USB and then disconnected, the battery drain in about 8 to 12 hours without alarm batery.

Is like the phone where still connected to PC via USB.
