I have the Nokia 5800 XPressMusic. When I attach the phone to the computer the phone asks me to select a mode and I choose "Media transfer" as prompted, but the device does not show up in Nokia music.
However, if I select PC suite then the device is detcted in OviSuite, so I don't think it's the cable. Any help would be appreciated. ![]()

well I have the same phone as you, and when ever I connect my phone I choose PC suite and it appears
on the Nokia Music Store Application....
Have you signed up to Nokia Music store because you have to register your phone to be able to transfer music
to and fro via your phone....?

I have managed to sign up to the music store but it was a problem getting the phone to appear for that part (the "comes with music" signup), but it did eventually work. I've tried all the modes and none of them make it appear.
Thanks for the reply. ![]()

Ok.....
I have had problems like you but it was because I hadn't pushed the USB in properly... I know it sounds silly
but make sure it is in properly, if not just push it in and it should appear......
If you have already inserted the USB in properly then I will have to have a think on what might be the
solution....
Also have you used the Nokia Music store on any other computer??? Because if you changed the "primary" computer you can only change it back to the one you prefer, every 90 days....
You could just try downloading the music straight from the phone....

Well, the weird thing is the phone appears on my computer/pc suite as already stated, but no in Nokia Music, and it doesn't appear that the usb can be pushed in any furhter
There is another computer in the house - with a seperate phone and music account - that's worked fine. I can download the music okay as well, it's just the phone it isn't detecting.
Will try to download it straight to the phone, but I would much prefer to have the music on the computer first as I assume downloading via the phone is much slower.

I see your problem more clearly now.... You want to connect your phone to the computer or the music store on the computer.
Try this:
Plug in your 5800 to your PC
Wait a few seconds
Enter the Nokia Music store
see if it's there.
If not go to my computer and see whether it's there, if not then your USB must be faulty?

Nokia Music Store: Not There
Windows Media Player: There
My computer:There

mmmmmm...... I'm gonna have to have a think on this one... I'm using a Mac at the moment but tomorrow I'll be with my PC tomorrow, in the meanwhile try and ask someone else and see if they can help.....
It might be something to do with the music store.... have you used The Nokia Music Store before with another phone?
If so it may still think that you are using that phone and not identify your new one as your primary phone.
Try downloading a track
Then go to My Music
Hover your mouse over the track icon....
And a row of buttons will appear, see if one of them says "transfer to Nokia 5800"
if so, transfer it and then see if the songs has appeared in your phone....
But for now I can't give you "frontline commentary" so try and see if someone else can help.....
I will still be online so I won't be far....

Maybe follow the steps?
Unless you have already followed these ones then it's useless.
Here are the steps on MY Nokia 5800 box for setting up Comes with Music
1. Find the disc labelled '1'. Insert it in your PC, follow the onscreen instructions and then move onto step 2.
2. Find the USB cable labeled '2'. Use it to connect your phone to your PC. Select 'Media Transfer' on your phone. Once you have done this, move onto Step 3.
3. Find the Booklet labelled '3', this contains your activation pin. Open Nokia Music on your PC & click 'Join Now', then enter your pin to activate Comes With Music.
More help can be found at music.nokia.com/support
I have highlighted Media Transfer because this is the setting you SHOULD choose, although you say you have tried every option try Media Transfer and see if it works.... because you say it's appearing on 'My Computer' AND Windows Media Player or whatever it is, so it should work?.....

I had already followed your instructions and still nothing.
I had thought of running as administrator (I'm using Vista), but I can't see the options in the usual places to run as administrator, so that idea is gone.

This is the only answer I found in the Nokia wesbite:
My mobile device is not detected by Nokia Music
If you are using a Nokia Nseries device this will need to be connected via Media Player mode.
If you are using a Nokia mobile device this will need to be connected in Printing & Media mode.
Other mobile devices may have similar configurations.
This was written by Nokia but this may not help you...

here is a solution:
Ensure your device is connected in the media transfer mode (for example Media Player, Media Transfer or Printing & Media) and that the memory card (if applicable) is inserted into the device.
If your phone is still not detected, update the drivers for the phone.
If this did not resolve your issue, format the memory card of your phone. For information on how to do this, please see the user guide of your Nokia phone. Note that formatting the memory card on your phone will delete all data stored on the memory card. Before formatting, ensure that all personal data is backed up using Nokia PC Suite.

Hey,
The problem is fixed, and I'll post how I did it.
First off, I ran the PC suite cleaner and then reinstalled pc suite as prompted. Then I navigated to the programfiles/Nokia and ran NokiaMusic as an admin.
Simply solution, guess I just don't think. ![]()
