5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

[ Edited ]

See previous post that is marked as solved, but is not solved in my case.

I am using Mail for Exchange, my company forces the phone to lock after 10 minutes of idle time.

When I get a phonecall when the phone is locked, there is no way that you can have access tto normal phonecall functions as <Mute> and <Speaker> during a phonecall. And you can not unlock without breaking the call..

Yes when you receive a call ther is a green <answer> and a blue <unlock> slider. Howvever when swipng the <unlock> you can only choose between <answer> and <reject> and there is [Option] that gives you access to <answer> or <reject> aswell.

In other words no access to phone functions, No way you can activate the speaker on the phone when you were called while the phone was locked. This is quite useless and in my opinion a design flaw.

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

whats stupid that your company has locked the phone in some way?

back up your data and reformatt the phone if you wish this should remove the lock (where ever they got it from we would like to know)

this will take your phone back to out of box condition

try these code below

. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for all operations listed here is 12345

2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone

3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
hard reset - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. )

If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

Thank you Jimmy for your response.

The locking is caused by a setting in the Exchange server of my company.

They want to secure the device in case it is lost or left unattended.

So my work-mail can be pushed to my nokia provided that I accept the automated locking.

This is a possiblilty a mailserver can request wehn using Nokia Mail for Exchange.

So far so good, I do not like the locking but I can live with it.

The problem is that when I receive a phonecall at the moment the phone is locked, the new firmware v50.0.005.201.12 does not allow Normal phone functions like <Mute> <Speaker>. And you can not unlock withour breaking the call, e.g. to do some advanced features like setting up a theeeway call etc.

I hope Nokia can solve this flaw.

best regards

In v50, when you answer the call, it will give you access to the options for mute and speaker. You dont normally see this since the phone is pressed to your ear, but its there. Although you do have to answer the call first to see the mute and speaker options.

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

Thank you chan,

In case the phone is locked at the moment you receive a call you will see a big image of a lock. Now Yyu get two sliders a green one to <answer> and a blue one to <unlock>

Howvever when swipng the <unlock> you can only choose between <answer> and <reject> and there is [Option] that gives you access to <answer> or <reject> aswell.

In case you select <answer>

There in NO possibility to access functions like <mute> and <speaker> without ending the call.

thanks regards AJ

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

You mean the company lock even changed the in-call screen?

Well, it seems that the problem here is your company lock. As it is a 3rd party installation, Nokia has nothing to do with it. You will have to ask your company technician to edit the lock functions on your phone if possible.

No chanchan It is all standard Nokia software. The Nokia Mail for exchange opens the locking possibility to the mail server. I do not have a problem with that. It is the stupid way the phone operates at the moment you will get a call when the phone is locked.

You can experience yourself by recreating the problem in the following way:

Go to <Settings><Phone><Phone Mgmt.><Security><Phone and SIM card><Phone autolock period> and set this to e.g. 1 minute.

Wait one minute and have some one call you.

Now you will be in the situation as described above in this thread.

During that call you will have no possibility to use <mute><Loud speaker> functions.Neither can you unlock the phone without breaking the call first.

This happens with the latest firmware V50.

Thanks for your time, Hope Nokia will solve this very inconvenient bug.:smileymad:

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

I did what you said, and I still have the mute and loudspeaker buttons. It just proves my point that what you are experiencing is not part of Nokia standard software. I am on v50.,

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

Hi Chan and Jimmy,

Thanks a lot for your time and your thoughts on this.

I did not install specific software. The mail configuration just uses the standard Mail For Exchange from Nokia. I do not think that the problem is there. I have version V50.0.005 Version date 23-03-2010 Custom version 50.0.05.201.5. Nokia OVI suite states that my phone has the latest version. And I did re-install it.

Please try the following for me. Be sure you have the unlock code, this is 12345 unless you have changed it.

  1. Shortly press the on/off button on the top of the phone.
  2. Then select <Lock Phone>
  3. Let somebody call you.
  4. Either swipe <answer> or first <unlock> and then <answer>
  5. Now there is a phone conversation, and during this phone conversation I am unable to use <Mute.<Loudspeaker> or setup a 3way call. I only see a big lock image on the screen, and a phone icon that I am in a call.

Please let me know if you have more possibilities at step 5

Thanks a lot for your time.

Regards AJ

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

Ah, now I see. Its a phone lock, and not simply the screen lock. Yes you are unable to access the options in that way. I am not sure if there is any work around on this though.

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

Indeed Chan,

And in my case, because of this locking policy, enforced by my employer, Nokia Mail for Exchange sets the Phone Autolock period to 10 minutes. The result is that in most cases my phone is locked when I receive a call. The irritating thing is the limmited functionality

So please Nokia change the software and allow at least <Mute> and <Loud Speaker> when you receive a call at the moment the phone is locked. Or introduce a way of unlocking when you receive call at the moment the phone is locked. (Unlocking without breaking the call)

:smileysad: Nokia please help :smileysad:

Thanks AJ

Re: 5800 key lock problem during phone calls - firmware v50

It's even worse than that........

Even if you remove the exchange profile which introduced the restriction or even go so far as to remove exchange all together, the policy remains set my that original exchange server.  Your digit length and auto lock period are set for ever.  Seems like the only option is a hard reset and many hours of getting your phone back to how you had it before.

Just spent a while on a call with various Nokia support folks and all they do is blame your exchange server and accuse it of "corrupting" your phone software!  Seems it's acceptable to have a phone whose software is unable to set a parameter that it freely displays!
