5800 and annoying prompts

I've had a look around, but is there any way to get those annoying connection prompts to stop popping up in internet-enabled apps?

All I want is for my phone to use WiFi when available, and whatever O2 connection (HSDPA, 3G, Edge, GPRS) is available when WiFi isn't. I don't want the phone to ask me anything... just do it.

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

It's easy.

1) Set the net-aware application to use the "default" connection.

2) Go into menu > settings > connectivity > destinations
Then Options > Default connection
Set it to "Internet"

3) Go into the "Internet" destination and for each of your packet data connections, edit it and set "Use access point" to "Automatically".

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

Thanks, but that is exactly how my phone is set up already. This works for most apps, but there are some apps that don't have an option to let you set the default connection - ie the ovi store. I was hoping for some kind of global prompt option, as I would also like to turn off those prompts that ask me if I want to allow connection to the network.

As an aside, is there a way to set the keyboard to full qwerty across the entire phone? Some apps don't remember my keyboard preferences when I change them and it's annoying to have to change them all the time.

Cheers :smileyhappy:

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

You're right. There are some applications that don't use the global settings, and for those there's nothing you can do unless the application in question has a "default connection" setting.

As for the keyboard setting, once again it's the applications that "forget" the setting that are at fault. Built-in applications always seem to remember the input method selected AFAICS.

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

I'll just cross my fingers and hope Nokia sort these problems out in later firmwares then!

Thanks :smileyhappy:

I think its more the apps fault rather than the firmware ...

I disagree. I want the ability to make some things uniform throughout the phone. 1) is the way I access the internet and 2) is the keyboard I use. What is the point in giving us the option to set a default connection if every app has its own preferences?

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

I see your point, its kinda like the difference between symbian apps and java apps... using different input methods, ah they joys of a touch screen. I still think its the apps choosing not to use the phones default method at fault but sure, a workaround would be to set the phone to overwrite the input method of the apps in use... maybe :smileywink:

Re: 5800 and annoying prompts

I think the problem is that I came from using a smartphone with a sandbox environment (the iPhone) to a smartphone that lets apps do whatever the hell they like. It's good in some ways but can be annoying when people don't code their apps to be consistent with other apps on the OS!
