5800 XM restarts by itself

Hello,

I'm facing a problem with my new Nokia 5800 which is on use for 2 weeks right now.

The first time I had noticed the problem was after couple of days of use when I had connected the phone to the charger and it stucked and restarted itselft. From that time almost every morning I've noticed that the phone has restarted on the night (when it was connected to the charger). That's because I saw the Fring application welcome screen which is shown every time the phone is turned on.

For the last 3 days I've started to investigate the problem more seriuosly and noticed it occures when the phone is connected to the charger. Before two days I took of the Sim card from it to check if the problem belong to the Network or the Sim card but it continues to happen on recharge.

I was wanted to ask for any ideas or maybe an application for checking the source of the problem. Is there a log on Symbian to see crashes history?

The phone has a warranty but I want to have a idea what is the source of the problem.

*I also want to ask you not to advise me to do soft/hard format or updating the firmeware because I'm worried it will delete the Hebrew language (should it?) from my device and than the warrany can be removed (That's the local store policy :/).

Thank you,

Asaf.

Ok, no format suggesion here. Try this.. Restart your mobile. Now press and hold Menu key for few seconds and running application menu will appear on screen. Menu and Standby is default application so check for other running applications. Close one of them and check your problem. If it doesn't solve then close other application and check your problem. If your problem solve by closing any application then that application causing the problem so uninstall it from your mobile. Try this and give me the result...

Re: 5800 XM restarts by itself

that is pure rubbish that it will delete the Hebrew language if you update the phone. all language packs are retained during a firmware upgrade, as the phone product code is for a specific region containing the languages. if your local store says that will void the warranty, they may very well have no proper knowledge of phones, or MAYBE they are trying to cover up the fact that they may have done some tampering with the phone itself. again, some of the senior users have further knowledge on the specifics of such situations occurring. but as anyone will tell you, updating your phones firmware is always highly recommended, due to the bug fixes, stability, reliability and performance improvements it brings. the final decision is up to you though, i am just informing you of the options available to you.

please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us :smileyhappy:

Re: 5800 XM restarts by itself

Thanks both,

post007, there are no applications that loading on the phone startup except from Fring, but the problem has started to happen before installing it..

adrianhughes, how can you be so sure that the language won't disappear. I so few people on the net which complained about their Hebrew which has been dissapeared after updating their firmware. I presume their product code wasn't for Hebrew language, so how did the store installed the Hebrew on their phone?

What about an application for logging crashes or application faults?

Asaf

In this situation, you have to visit Nokia Care Point. But before that, backup all your important data using Nokia PC Suite backup utility. Now go to NCP with your proof of purchase and give them your mobile for proper check. Also tell them that you want Hebrew language in your mobile and show them that it is currently installed in your mobile. Good luck...

Re: 5800 XM restarts by itself

well if you update the same languages (Hebrew) will be reinstalled on your phone. what Post007 is referring to is the method if you don't have a language on your phone when you bought the phone in the first place, but you want an extra one installed. now, if you bought the phone and it had the Hebrew language installed on it in the first place, but you update and it isn't restored then obviously the product code has been changed, and is not for the region you are in. you then have to wonder if the phone has been imported by your phone shop and is not indeed your local variant.

Re: 5800 XM restarts by itself

Updated the phone firmaware to v30.0.011 and restarts continue to happen. More than that - after one restart i saw blue-pink-yellow line bilnking all over the screen.

I think I should give it to the store for more detailed examination..
