Well I am now on my 3rd 5800 and they all seem to have really bad build quality. As others have mentioned there is a big gap along one side of the phone (top right hand side running down past the volume buttons) and in the dark light leaks out through the gap
Come on - how can anything like this be put out to the general public - this is a serious issue. If you can get one side of the phone to close properly then why didn't you get the other side to do the same?
As a product designer I know that during the design stage there are several prototypes made, parts checked etc - how could this be passed as ok?
I am seriously considering ditching the 5800 all together - for something that Nokia are classing as a premium model they really need to re-consider its quality.

This is really annoying me as well. This phone cost me a lot of money and it's the worst build quality/design I've ever seen.
People talk about dust getting in through the gap but what worries me is that it is much more likely to let in moisture! I've checked with Vodafone and moisture damage is NOT covered by their warranty. So unless Nokia admit that it's a manufacturing fault you'll have to pay for the repair youself.
Of course,
1) If their wasn't a gap down the side of the case water wouldn't get in so it wouldn't need repairing!
2) If the phone gets water damaged it's almost certainly going to be classified as "beyond economical repair"!
Come on Nokia, admit it's a manufacturing fault, recall all the phones and repair them free of charge.

Hi there, just bought the phone 1 week ago and to say i am distressed with the quality of the product. The gap that you see is caused due to warpage of the plastic casing. I work for an plastic injection molding company and i can spot the defect right away. Too bad due to the excitement of buying the phone i did not check it throughly. The only solution to this is to change a new set of casing altogether.
TO NOKIA. WHOEVER IS READING THIS, YOUR QUALITY ASSURANCE IS REALLY POOR FOR A COMPANY. FIRST THE SPEAKER NOW THIS. IF I CAN'T GET A PROPER ANSWER FROM THE NOKIA CARE CENTER WHICH I AM GOING LATER I AM GOING TO DO A MARKET CLAIM ON YOU GUYS FOR SELLING A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. FOR THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS......

Well I have changed mine yet again - this one is a 'little' better. There is now a uniform gap around the top and it do longer squashes together. This is probably the 'best' one I have had so far but I would still say it is not perfect.
I totally agree with some of the other comments - Nokia should recall all of them and release properly fixed ones instead. Their mouldings really need to be looked at and whom ever is in charge of quality should really find a new job.
If only some one at Nokia read through this forum, or cared about its users the we might see some top quality products.

I have just had my phone returned after repair stating they will not fix it becuase it has moisture damage. I have always looked after my phone extremely well and personally see this quality build issue as the reason my hone now doesnt work as the gap from the sides can let in moisture.
Im certainly unhappy about this
