I bought new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and using it for past 3 months but now only I reliaze one problem on it. The problem is it, when I make calls if the person I call is bz talking with third person its suppose shows "call waiting" on my phone right? but Nokia 5800 XpressMusic never shows this msg. Is it the phone software like that or I need to setup something on it? Can someone give me solution for this matter?

Did you activate your Call waiting feature ?? 

Settings>Calling>Call>Call Waiting (Activate) is that what you meant cause I didn't get your question.

No aronpresley , my problem is..... I am person A, Person A calling person B. But B talking to person C. So in this situation, in A's phone must shows that the B in call with other person or it will shows that A is in call waiting mode. But the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic never such the messages.

This situation is entirely dependent on person B's network service.

If person B has call waiting then when person A calls them, all will happen normally from person A's point of view. They will hear the ringing tone and person B will eventually take the call.

If, on the other hand, person B doesn't have call waiting or has deactivated it, then person A will simply get the "engaged" tone when they call if person B is already on the line to person C.

Your network and/or phone have nothing to do with this.

Definatly, that would be down to the other persons settings and or network.

The Person B's call waiting status is active and when person A call Perosn B, person B's phone shows call waiting. but person A's phone (5800 Xpress music) not shows msg "call waiting at other party" or something shows that the person B is busy with other call. Whoever have 5800 Xpressmusic please try it out and u will know the problem. Please advice me on this matter.

I've never heard of a phone that tells me whether the person I'm calling has call waiting or not. In fact, my phone has no way of knowing that.

Sometimes you'll get a recorded message saying that your correspondent is already on the line and is being notified that you're trying to call them, but that's a service that's managed by that person's network, not by your own phone.

I think u get me wrong, i never mean that phone can tells me whether the person I'm calling has call waiting or not, but the phone can shows u msg "Waiting". i juz try with Nokia E71, its shows but 5800 Xpressmusic never shows that msg. So what is my problem is i wont know the person i called is buzy with other line or not coz the phone not indicate me withe msg and i only hear the phone keep on ringing. When i ask the person i called y never pick up my calls he reply me that he was buzy talking to someone. Did u get my situation grschinon? i tried change the settings and update the frimware but its goes same.

agin... my problem is when i call a person who busy talking in in other person and he already activate his Call Waiting option and can see my incoming call. But in my phone never appears "Waiting" msg. Please advice me.

Hi correct me if i'm rong but i think the solution ur looking for is automatic redial (if u cant get through ur phone will redial till u get through ) hope this helps

ok i will try it 1st, anyway i tried with other sim card its work so i think its my network provider's problem and when i contect my network provider, they cant give a solution for my problem. it only remains the same problem with Malaysia's Maxis network provider 3G sim cards.

Rascalmacho.... Did you fix your problem? I have the same problem and I don’t think that it would be the network, cause I changed my SIM card to an Sonny Ericsson phone and the message "The call is waiting at other party" appears... but on my 5800XM it doesn't, that makes me think that is not an operator option or problem or any subscription, or dependent of my party network, cause I'm doing exactly the same with both phones and SE shows it and 5800 doesn't.

I still can't fix the problem... its confirmed the network provider's problem. The network provider 3G sim cards can't works with this 5800 smartphone. I also tried with other phone Sony Erricson K610i its work, only with 5800 its doesn't work. But if u try with other sim card into 5800 it will be works. I already tried and its work. Just some network doesn't work with 5800. I dont know what the F**K they research in network provider's R&D Dept, cant solve this silly problem.

I also facing the same problem.

My Senario:

I opened the SIM from 5800 and Insert the same SIM to nokia N70. I called my friend B at 8:02 PM. He was talking with my friend C that time. His call time was from 8:01 PM to 8:09 PM. So I got Call waiting msg on N70 . So I could understand that he was in another call and thats why he did not receive my call. For this reason this call waiting msg is important. But i again opended the SIM from N70 and inserted the SIM to 5800. I again called my friend B at 8:05 PM. He was still talking to my friend C. But call waiting msg was not shown in 5800. It seems that my friend B is not receving my call. But he is on call with friend C that is not known to me as call waiting msg is not shown. I think this is not due to network related issue. Because I use the Same SIM, Called to same friend but I got call waiting msg in N70 but not got the message on 5800.

Can anyone help us to solve the problem?

thats is network issue, you please try other network SIM into ur 5800 it will be shown call waiting msg. what i realize is some of network 3G SIM card not fully supported into 5800 and this kind of problem are appears. I try to get solution from my network provider but they also dunno whats wrong actually. I hope Nokia can identify this problem and the R&D dept can work together with the network providers to get good solution for this problem. Not only Nokia 5800 have this problem, I already bought Nokia N97 and the same problem followed thats mean the Nokia Symbian S3 phones all have this problem. 

I am from Malaysia using Nokia 5800 & Nokia N97 mini with Maxis 3G SIM card.

I am having the same problem with Nokia N97. My Operator is Mobinil Egypt. I also contacted the operator and they have no solution. I tried the SIM with many other Nokia Mobiles it shows "waiting" and I tried the N97 with different operators SIMs it worked. The weird part is that it works sometimes and give me the "waiting" msg (1 out of 20 times).
