Thats probably your SIM messages had you made a search on this boards with "flashing message symbol" as keywords it would have come up with numerous results with 100% matches another possibility could be any unread messages in your inbox thats not possible i reckon since you just bought the phone and inserted your sim card

Re: 5800 - Flashing message symbol - what does it mean

Flashing envelope could be caused by

1. You may just have an unread SMS from your last phone that is still saved on your SIM card. To check, goto Messaging>Options>SIM messages.

2. Messaging memory is full. Try deleting messages, also checking in, Sent and drafts.

Re: 5800 - Flashing message symbol - what does it mean

all of what they are saying is wrong the blingking message icon means that your sim card memory is fullof message. the sim can only accomodtae 20 message an d its full so what you do is go to menu/messaging/options/sim message/then delet all of the message that you can see and that will remove the blingking icon.

@jairate:

Read the posts above before you post something. Both the posts above yours say that the blinking message symbol is caused by unread messages in the SIM or, inbox being full. And, FYI, there are SIM cards that can store more than 20 messages.

@jairate - for the record, my simcard stores up to 100 messages (2 inboxes for the sim, 50 for each inbox).

Re: 5800 - Flashing message symbol - what does it mean

It just means that there are messages on the SIM. It does not indicate that the SIM is full.

Those screenshots cannot be obtained on a 5800. That's the homescreen of an N97 or N97 mini.
