Hi, this is my first post.
I have a 5530 xpressmusic. According to the manual, when the keyguard has been applied it can be unlocked either by sliding the keyguard lock switch on the right hand side of the phone, or by briefly pressing the on/off switch then swiping the screen. I can't get this second method to work. I've installed the latest version of the firmware.
Scouring these forums and the internet I can find no reference to anyone else having this problem. Is it just my phone? Using the keyguard switch all the time is a bit of a bind; and I worry how robust it will be in the long term.

Just found this after testing with my gf's new phone.

Apparantly, you need to swipe over the buttons that appears on the display (similar to the iPod touch interface). Note the directions of the arrows.

Thanks, PatrickY, but I've seen that post and its referring to swiping the screen when the alarm sounds. This works fine on my phone. It's the same method used for answering a call, you swipe the arrows that appear on the screen.
The scenario I'm referring to is when the keyguard has locked automatically and you just pick up the phone to send a text, make a call, use the music player or whatever. The manual says "You can also unlock the screen by pressing briefly the power key and swiping the screen. Follow the visual cues". When I press briefly the power key I don't get any visual cues, just a message saying "Use keyguard switch to unlock screen and keys"

Hi guys. I have the 5530 for a couple of months now. Its a carphone warehouse UK editio and came with the v.11 software.
My user manual does not say anything about pressing the power button and then swiping to unlock. Page 20 of the user manual says to unlock, slide the bar at the side of the phone.
However, I've seen online that some people complaining about what you guys said. I'm not sure whether it was actually on the phone or perhaps it was a feature on the earlier models or the first firmware version and for some reason has been removed.
On my phone which now runs the v.20 firmware, if i press the power button it only tells me to use the keyguard slide switch.
So maybe what you're experiencing is not a defect but rather what has been faced out in the newer firmware versions, if it was there previously.

Hi guys, guess what? Yeah, the keyguard slide switch starting to fail after 5 months usage, ask me if Im expecting that... yeah, was expecting that.
Now I have to slide it twice or more to get the phone locked/unlocked. Five months... whats next? Maybe next month the screen will pop out of the case or battery explode from inside, who knows, lets wait for the amazing adventure of being an 5530 customer...

You can use an onscreen keylock app if you really want.

Yeah, got 3 of them, and the only one which performs barely good is SlideUnlock but its kinda unstable as well, the other two cant replace in 100% the usage of the built-in slide keylock (no chance to lock the phone in a proper way) so 50% usage reduced only.
Im wondering what will happens when finally the built-in keylock life's goes out, how could I do to unlock the damn screen lol.
Should be interesting to see this feature in upcomings firmwares.

Have you tried Best Screen Lock?

Uhmm, if you mean Best ScreenLocker the answer is yup, as I said before its one of the two apps which partially replace the full function of the slide keylock.
Best ScreenLocker can auto-lock and unlock your screen but not a function to lock it, so 50% replace the built-in key. The same applies for the other app (nUnlock).

Hello guys! I was had the same problem, too. My save was apps nUnlock-v5 from THINKCHANGE. The apps working well.Good luck!![]()

nUnlock-v5 is quite useless in N97 as we still need to use the side keylock slider after slding the screen to unlock.

Try slide unlock.

you can use it without the unlocker
Just press the MENU button , then it'll be activated

Slide Unlock isn't signed..
03-Apr-2010 12:02 PM
Uh, yeah, sign it yourself. Its pretty easy, not to mention lots of very nice and helpful apps are unsigned.
For example, KillMe and Memcheck needs to be signed. They resolve the installer already in use issue.
There are lots of tutorials how to sign your own apps over the net. The fastest cert generator I've ever found was iMobile.

They'd better make Symbian so apps don't need to be signed anymore, it's just so stupid.
03-Apr-2010 12:32 PM
No, its actually better that they need to be signed. It prevents out of copyright distribution, not to mention that anybody could send you hacking malware over emails which would install themselves onto your phone if unsigned apps can be installed without question. Its a security measure for your own sake.
And signing apps isnt much trouble apart from the 3hrs it takes to wait for a cert (if you get from iMobile, other sites take like 3 days or more). Once you have the cert, you can sign apps in 5 secs everytime you want.

Hi, thanks for your reply but i found the problem. I had fitted a mirrored screen protector which covered the proximity sensor. The phone is as good as new now, regards Bill
