Is there any way of extending or disabling the light time out so the screen stays on? The only option I can find is to vary it for up to a minute.

no all nokia screens will go off after a period of time this is to save battery power

There are 3rd party applications like smartlight (available at a price on OVI) which will keep the screen backlight on till you exit the particular screen... (The auto time off will work on homescreen only )..

If you find this to your satisfaction, pl. hit the Green star...

What is pointless ? If you mean the price than OK, else I find the application very nice. One of my friends has istalled it and only thing prevented me to do the same is that its not free...

yeah kind of both price and functionality if you want to keep screen alive you just touch it or use the lock key on side of phone all this is free
this is of course your using the phone for something

The phone will run out of battery in less than five hours as well if you keep backlight on (depending on what is running).

i remember the time people gave out the light stays on now it goes of and people still complain LOL

No. The backlight remains ON only in the subsequent  screens and not the Home screen. It is very useful when reading a long text message or even while surfing the net..There is no substantial drop in the battery life while using 'smartlight'...

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I was asking was that I'd got the flip clock app, and I wanted to stop the screen dimming, otherwise it seemed a bit useless if you had to keep unlocking the phone to view it. Since then I've found another clock app that does stop the screen from blacking out.
