N95 as N810's Modem – Help!

I'm in the UK, using a SIM from the UK's Three 3G network in my N95, with a 'Broadband Lite Mobile Broadband Add-on', with 995.85 MB of capacity remaining: "Add Broadband Lite – Use your mobile as a modem for broadband on the go, with a 1 GB data allowance." I tried calling Three for tech support and got a "we can't help you because we don't sell the Nokia N810" response, and the addresses of my three closest Club Nokia Stores in central London – visiting which is now Plan B, if I can't find a friendly forum subscriber who can guide me to a solution.
Sending files via Bluetooth between N810 and N85 works fine in both directions, using Bluetooth's Object Push Profile (OPP). The N810 can browse and open files in the N95's microSDHC card and internal memory, using Bluetooth's File Transfer Profile (FTP). And the N810 correctly reports that the Bluetooth device 'Tim's N95' supports the DUN, FTP and OPP Bluetooth profiles, and the GSM/UMTS network type. But it seems that the N810 cannot acquire a net connection from the N95, using the phone's Bluetooth Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN), and the N810's '3'-in-the-UK connection setup.
So, just where does the problem lie? With Nokia? Or Bluetooth? Or Three? Or little old me? Any help would be most appreciated, for which I offer my thanks in advance.

However, all my pre-purchase research indicated that the N810 running OS2008 was interoperable with the N95 running S60 3rd Edition via their common Bluetooth profiles. And that's proved true, but so far only for OPP and FTP – and not yet for Dial-up Networking (DUN), which is the current sticking point.

You want bluetooth ON on the phone (not "auto" which turns it on when the phone want's to talk, eg headsets, when you get a call).
As I just flashed my N810 to the latest firmware and couldn't get the phone connection back I know how you feel.
On first time use I got the setup wizard, after the reflash I didn't. (had to read the new version of the manual)
Open the control panel and select "tools", "mobile operator setup wizard..." (that's the menu from clicking on the title bar at the top) which'll add the settings to connect via the phone to many of the common mobile companies.

For 3 in the uk the wizard gives a connection called "3", using packet data, Access point name: three.co.uk, Dial-up number: *99***1# (blank user and password)

By deafult the 3 setting entered by the wizard add a space to the end of the name "three.co.uk "
Remove the space and it should work. All other settings the same as the wizard puts in.
Also i find it more reliable if, on the N95 Packet Data is set to "When Available" rather than "When Needed"

So, to recap for others struck down by the same 'challenge', here's how to...
• Get set up to use your N95 phone as a 3G Bluetooth-connected modem for your N810 internet tablet
• Correct for Nokia's preposterous error in creating a defective '3' Connection to 3's 3G network.
This example procedure assumes you haven't yet carried out 'Bluetooth pairing' between your N810 and your N95 (2.1 below) or set up any Connection for your particular mobile operator company (2.2 below).
Overview
1.0 N95's Bluetooth – switch on, make visible, name phone
2.0 N810's Bluetooth – pair with N95, and setup a Connection called '3'
3.0 Correct for Nokia's preposterous error in creating a defective '3' Connection
4.0 Test out your corrected '3' Connection
5.0 Have a lie down in a quiet, darkened room, with a moist cloth on your forehead
1.0 N95's Bluetooth – switch on, make visible, name phone
1.1 Menu —> Tools —> Bluetooth, then set as follows
........Bluetooth
............On
........My phone's visibility
............Shown to all
........My phone's name
............your choice, eg: "Tim's N95" (as used in the rest of this example)
1.2 Choose 'Exit' —> Bluetooth logo shows on Standby Screen
2.0 N810's Bluetooth – pair with N95, and setup a Connection called 3
2.1.0 Create Bluetooth pairing with N95
2.1.1 On N810: Application menu —> Settings —> Control panel —> Connectivity section —> double-tap on 'Bluetooth'
........'Bluetooth' box
............Bluetooth on: yes
............Visible: no
............My device's name: your choice, eg: "Tim's N810" (as used in the rest of this example)
........Tap on [ Devices ] —> 'Bluetooth devices' box —> tap on [ New ] —> 'Select a device' box —> tap on "Tim's N95" —> tap on [ OK ]
........'Pair with device' box
............Pair with device: "Tim's N95"
............Passcode: make a note of this four digit number
............Set as trusted device: yes
........Tap on [ OK ], and 'Pairing' appears, top right
2.1.2 On N95: 'Bluetooth' box
........Passcode for Tim's N810
............enter the Passcode you just made a noted
2.1.3 On N810: 'Pairing complete' shows briefly, top right
........Use this phone for Internet connections?
........Tap on [ Yes ]
2.2.0 Setup a Connection for your particular mobile operator company
2.2.1 NB: if you have a Connection set up already the 'Operator setup wizard' will not appear automatically; if you need to get at it, it is available here: Application menu —> Settings —> Control panel —> 'Control panel' menu (top left) —> Tools —> 'Mobile operator setup wizard...'
2.2.2 On N810:
........'Operator setup 1/4: Welcome' box —> Tap on [ Next ]
........'Operator setup 2/4: Select country' box
............Select country: your country, eg: "UK" (as used in the rest of this example)
............Tap on [ Next ]
........'Operator setup 3/4: Select operator' box
............Mobile operator: your mobile operator company, eg: O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, etc. I choose "3" (as used in the rest of this example)
............Tap on [ Next ]
........'Operator setup 4/4: Finish' box
............Tap on [ Finish ] to save these settings to a new Connection called '3'
........'Bluetooth devices' box —> tap on [ Close ] —> 'Bluetooth' box —> tap on [ OK ]
2.2.3 NB: if your mobile operator company is the '3' network in the UK, trying to use the '3' Connection created by the 'Mobile operator setup wizard...' gives an error message, such as "Internet connection failed. Try again?" or "Connection failed to phone Tim's N95. Try again?" You can correct for this in 3.0 below.
3.0 Correct for Nokia's preposterous error in creating a defective '3' Connection
3.1 NB: If you try to use the '3' Connection created by Nokia's 'Mobile operator setup wizard...', you'll get an error message, such as "Internet connection failed. Try again?" or "Connection failed to phone Tim's N95. Try again?" Why? Because of an extra space character added to the access point name, ie: "three.co.uk " (incorrect, fails, error message) rather than "three.co.uk" (correct, succeeds, connected message). The rest of the settings in the wizard-created '3' Connection are OK, but this extra space character needs removing, so here's how to fix Nokia's preposterous error.
3.2 On N810: Application menu —> Settings —> Control panel —> Connectivity section —> double-tap on 'Connectivity'
........'Connectivity' box —> tap on [ Connections ]
........'Connections' box —> tap on 3 —> tap on [ Edit ]
........'Connection setup: Name and type' box —> tap on [ Next ]
........'Connection setup: Packet data' box
............Access point name: "three.co.uk " —> delete the extra space character, such that:
............Access point name: "three.co.uk"
............Tap on [ Finish ] to save this corrected setting to the '3' Connection, and 'Settings saved' shows briefly, top right
........'Connections' box —> tap [ Done ]
........'Connectivity' box —> tap on [ OK ]
4.0 Test out your corrected '3' Connection
4.1 On N810: Tap on the 'Web browser' icon, top right (it looks like planet Earth)
.............tap on a bookmark, such as Wikipedia, and 'Web loading' then 'Updating' show briefly, top right
4.2 'Select connection' box —> tap on 3
...........The 'Internet connection' icon goes from being grayed out, to flashing the packet data icon while the connection is established, to a lit-up packet data icon once the N810 is connected to the '3' network via the N95
............The Bluetooth icon goes from white to blue once the N810 is connected to the N95 by Bluetooth
............The Web browser status bar shows 'Connecting' briefly, bottom right
............The Web browser status bar shows the web address of the bookmark you chose at 4.1 above
............And FINALLY, the Web browser shows the web page of that very bookmark! Yee-haaaaw!!
4.3 Try a few other web pages to assure yourself that you are up and running
5.0 Er...
............that's it! Phew!!
Comically complicated? Preposterously error-prone? Ridiculously relieving to force two Nokia products to cooperate?
