How to create Sub-Folders!

[ Edited ]
I've learnt of a trick to create sub-folders in S60 phones! I know this will be a feature of Feature Pack 2, however we can create them in older S60 versions (2nd Ed/3rd Ed). To do this follow the instructions below:

1. Create a new folder and call it whatever you want your sub-folder to be.

2. Move this folder to be in position 1 (top left of the main menu)

3. Place an app in position 5 (the default position for when you open up the menu)

4. highlight the app in position 5 and then press options (so that you can see the option to "Move to folder" ).

5. Now with the option menu open, press the power key and select "Offline". You'll notice that the menu is still open, and that the folder you created is highlighted in the top left of the screen.

6. Now select "Move to folder" and select which folder you want to contain your sub-folder.

For example you can now have folders within Media for Videos, Music etc and organise your apps much better!

Re: How to create Sub-Folders!

Make sure the Options screen showing "Move to folder" is open when you switch to "Offline". After the phone has switched to offline mode, wait a couple of seconds and you'll notice the menu should have refreshed. The folder you created (in the top left) should now be highlighted underneath the open options screen. Now when you select "Move to folder" and select whichever folder you want to put the sub-folder in it should move the folder only.

Re: How to create Sub-Folders!

It's surprisingly not that hard to do once you have the hang of it, if you follow my instructions above then it should work.

This definately works on the N80/N80IE!

Re: How to create Sub-Folders!

I've just found out that this only seems to be working for 3rd Edition phones. However, try it on a 2nd Ed and let us know if it works or not!

Re: How to create Sub-Folders! - but wait theres more ....

My first posting! Thanks for your tip - in addition I discovered that this technique allowed me to delete default folders that I did not want - I preferred to have "Applications" rather than "My Own"

Normally you cannot rename apps installed on your phone. However by using this same trick, but putting the app you want to rename in position 1, and a folder in position 5 you can now rename any app installed on your phone!

Just be careful doing this, especially with the "My Own" folder, as this may affect how apps are installed. Remember by deafult apps/games automatically install to the "My Own" folder, if you delete it where are they going to go?

Re: How to create Sub-Folders!

Hmm. Doesn't seem to work on N70. Even after choosing Offline, the menu does refresh, but it knows the position of the highlighted item.
