Updated PC Suite. My computer did not recognize phone. Restarted computer and Phone. Same results.
Removed PC Suite and downloaded OVI. Same results.
Wish I hadn't updated. Things were working fine before update.
Windows XP. Nokia 5320

I had the same problem too, I had to uninstall everything and then reinstall.
Even unstalled the Connectivity Driver and resintalled.
Worked after that.
Weird.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks, but not much seems to help.
There is one other strange characteristic with this problem though:
Usually when something gets connected to the USB port of my computer ,it give an audible notice - two notes - first a low note then a higher note. When a device is removed from the USB port, it give a high note then a lower note. Now when i connect my phone it gives two low notes.
Any idea what that would indicate?

had kinda the same issue with my N97
have several pc's with each there PC suite 7.1.40.1 and OVI 2.0.1.35 latest updates
done on 2 WinXP : result no problem whatsoever; on a vista 32bit : no problem
on 1 vista 64 : no problem, on another 1 vista 64 : not able to connect trough usb anymore
although update went accordingly with the necessary reboots in between.
last vista 64 box, crapped out on the usb driver.
upon connecting the phone with the CA-101 cable, i heard disctinct 3 short high beeps, followed by a low beep. This happens 3 times in a row without any further action from me or the pc or phone.
when then entered to connect via pc suite on the phone, the result was nil.
via bluetooth the connection worked, which made me conclude there was indeed a sort of driver failure.
reading this forum, specifically this thread.
i visitied following url :
http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/d
which contained the nokia drivers (pasted here for easy retrieval for others...)
activating the msi file gave me a 'repair' and 'remove' option.
selecting the repair game me an error, sating the msi file was not accessible, presumably by admin rights, altought i was logged in as such..
Since the driver did not work, reactivated the msi file, and then selected the 'remove' option.
once completed, and finished. I once more activated the msi file, and installed as if there was no driver.
after completion, rebooted.
After reboot, closed first the automatic opened OVI
then i plugged in the usb (while not to phone connected)
then plugged the phone to the cable, and the driver started to be recognized.
so in short..
i needed to remove, then install and reboot, before i was able to use the cable again.
hope my 2 cents will help someone...
