I have installed Nokia OVI Suite version 2.2.0.245 and attempted to sync my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device but I'm having various problems getting the OVI Suite to recognize my device.
For the most part, when the program will come up with a message saying "Please change the USB mode on your device to OVI Suite (or PC Suite) USB Mode".
Now, I'm already in PC Suite mode but I still disconnect the USB cable and connect it again, selecting the PC Suite mode again on my device. This does not change anything as I still get the same error message.
When I don't get this error message, and I try to sync my messages (for example), the application crashes.
I'm running windows Vista SP2, and my Nokia 5800 has the latest firmware installed V 31.2.101 (installed today July 7th, 2010)
I don't know if this is a known issue and anybody knows how to fix it... if not, I hope the folks at Nokia take note and consider this issue.
Regards,
David

Hi Davideyung,
I am not sure whether this will solve your problrm but you could try this once.
1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
6. Restart the computer if prompted.
7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC/Ovi suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.

Thanks tpt635601, after re-installing the cable driver, OVI Suite is now recognizing the phone. I was able to sync my messages and my contacts, but I find OVI Suite crashing a lot. This is most likely some other unrelated issue (which I will probably create a separate post for). But the problem with the program not recognizing the phone appears resolved.
Many thanks again.
David

I guess I am the only one to whom it doesn't work. Figures. I sincerely hate this phone and Nokia. The phone should make life easier and it failed miserably.
If the guys at guarantee won't change my phone to another (they say I had it for a year already, the guarantee is 2, and it doesn't say that replacing the phone is only for the first year), I'll throw it in their face
.
After the emotional discharge, not only the phone is faulty but even the program for it on the PC. I can access my phone, browse the files and all, only ovi suite doesn't work. I saw this solution and one more very complicated one, but it had comments that you need to do it EVERY time to connect the phone. And I get a headache just reading the steps. If it at least worked, I would sacrifice an hour of my life for my phone (really making life easier...That was sarcasm)
Is there any other way to fix this for real?
Or all hope for my relationship with Nokia is dead.
P.S. I might seem like a Nokia hater but only because through all my life and all my phones I NEVER had to bring a phone for fixing. And this one is good only at not being good. And breaking, not working... I just really reached my limit per this year with this great phone.

Satari,
After following your instructions I got my 5230 recognized via USB cable.
Million thanks! I wonder why they do not mention Change/Repair in official instructions. But you solved it.
