Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Hello, it's my first post on the forum.

I decided to write because there is some functionality missing in Ovi Suite (as well as Map Loader) that seems to be so important I'm surprised nobody mentioned it before.

It is the map version number.

I can manually check the version number of the maps installed on my 5230 (currently it's 0.1.24.114), but I can't check what the version number is of the maps available to download by Ovi Suite or Map Loader.

How do I know it's time to update the maps on my phone? I don't, because neither Ovi Suite nor Map Loader show the version number of downloaded maps (they don't show the version number of maps on my phone either).

Showing the version number of maps available to download as well as those installed on connected phone seems to be fundamental functionality of Ovi Suite. Is it really so hard to implement?

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

And it still doesn't let you configure the synchronisation.  I need to be able to do a one-way sync (Outlook to phone) from two locations (home and work) so that I have my personal and professional contacts in the phone, but don't have them blending together at their sources.

This was easy to do with PC Suite, yet the functionality isn't available in Ovi.  It's been dumbed down so far that it's no longer worth using, which means I'll have to look at a different brand of handset when I update early next year.

Could anybody recommend a method (Nokia or otherwise) whereby I can keep my personal and professional contacts independent at their sources but together on my handset?

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Installation is still the usual nightmare that Nokia's OVI SUite is infamous for.

On two of my THREE  machines an attempted in-place update messed everything up completely, no syncs were possible, OVI, player would no longer start, OVI suite would crash on start, etc.

On all three machines (1. WIn XP Pro 32 SP3, 2. WIn 7 Pro 32, 3. WIn 7 Pro 64) I had to do a complete uninstall of OVI-Suite and OVI Player, remove all directories relating to them, (not only within Program Files), manually clean the registry of all traces of OVI.

I took me the better part of a whole workday to get one machine to sync my pathetic N07 again.

Ah how nice to see that a pathetically bad handset is complemented by an even more pathetic, resource wasting, productivity killing, unstable behemoth of a desktop software that really doesn't get any better with every new release, just different.

The major problems have so far not been addressed, all Nokia does is minor cosmetics. Still the worst smartphone desktop software there is, across all desktop and smartphone platforms by a HUGE margin. Sorry.

True iTunes for the fruit phone is also an enormous behemoth, but it works quickly and reliably once running. Even though iTunes is slow to start, it typically starts up around three times faster than OVI-Suite (time taken from double clicking the icon to the app displaying its UI and accepting input). Device connect is about twice as fast in iTunes (from plugging in the connector to the device until sync start).

If Nokia aren't doing anything about all this and soon, they will lose the remainder of their smartphone market share faster than you can say "Android will beat the fruit phone".

Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

I have, at last, had some success achieving Sync with Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23.  After making the following changes to my settings I have managed to sync and backup repeatedly without problems.   (I am using a 5230 phone and XP professional on my PC.)

I opened Ovi Suite and under the options on the top bar clicked “Tools”;

  • Under “General”, I cleared every option except the one under “Privacy”,
  • Under “My Device”, I selected “Do not back up automatically”,
  • Under “Device sync.”, I cleared all the check boxes for “Sync automatically every time …”
  • Under “Contacts”, the option “Sync with my Nokia account in Ovi.com” seems to work, but sync seems much faster if the box is cleared.

  • After making these changes I closed Ovi Suite and disconnected my phone from the USB,
  • For good measure, I restarted both my PC and my phone,
  • My Ovi Suite now appears to be working OK (but starting is not, of course, “automatic”).

  •  It does not now seem to matter whether I start Ovi Suite first (by double clicking the Ovi icon) or plug in the phone first (not forgetting to select “PC Suite” on the phone at the prompt),
  • It seems to work OK, whether from the “Sync all” button at the bottom, or from the “Sync” commands at the top of the window,
  • I do not seem to need to sync. a single option (e.g. Messaging or Photos) before syncing all.

I hope this works for, and helps, someone else and that today (13th day of the month) is not just a freak lucky one for me.

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Hi!

I also updated my previous Ovi Suite.

When I connect the phone the program asks me to switch the USB connection type to Ovi Suite (PC Suite). But I have done it already. When the phone asks the connection type I put the PC Suite type but still the Ovi Suite asks to change the type.

Any ideas. I did not find this type problems in this discussion.

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Ok - once again I have tried ovi suite. I tried about a year ago and ended up going back to Nokia PC Suite because of the all the install problems and complete failure to sync my 5800 to outlook 2007.  This new version  fails on install with a error "1601". I'm running windows XP sp3 with the latest updates.  Why do nokia not completely test this software?

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

So I un-installed Ovi Suite, Cable Driver, Software Updater & PC Connectivity sand then run the Clean-Up program and it worked, but....

After restarting the machine, I'm back to the work around!

I take it there has been no more feedback, which seems to be the norm if there are any issues at the moment. Even to say yes, there is a problem and we are working on it would be OK, as long as people knew that something is being done...

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

[ Edited ]

Ouch, my Ovi has updated itself and whole hell broke loose :smileysad:

It offered to update my maps which I stupidly agreed to, and the next 5-6 hours were spent with Ovi "working". In the end I cancelled it and found out that instead of updating my maps it decided to download maps of Australia, North America and god knows what else that I don't need. I certainly don't want 5.61GB of useless maps. Thank god for Garmin though.

I had the device connect via USB and it kept using Bluetooth instead, in the end I disabled Bluetooth on the phone to force the dumb software to use USB.

I tried uninstalling the Ovi suite and all the accompanying software and re-installing, but it hasn't done much. I saw the workaround and it worked, I managed to connect my phone finally and Windows recognised it when Ovi wasn't running, and ran the suite which tried to sync and now it's stuck on "setting up".

All my maps are now deleted and I can't sync anything. Is there any way to get back to normal, or to downgrade to a working version of Ovi?

Can't believe that the gobshites of Nokia couldn't spent 5 minutes testing this "update" !

EDIT: After another cleanup and reinstall I can't connect my device via USB anymore. It fails at trying to install a driver for "MTP USB Device" :smileysad:

Actually that has been requested several times by many people, including me. :smileyhappy: I don't know why Nokia is not implementing it, maybe the map versioning is currently non-existant or very messy, and it takes time to clear it... Anyway, priorities priorities, first they should make the map downloads more bullet-proof (ie. that you are able to actually download any maps), after that little enhancements like this.

Their focus currently seems to be on breaking what does work, rather than improving anything or adding new features.

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Firstly, let me apologise and please bear with me, but I've only just got my E72 and so I have only just arrived at this forum.  I've checked the thread of the conversations to date, but cannot see, or have missed, reference to my particular problem.  The Outlook Calendar entries on my computer transfer to the E72, but the timings are all wrong.  Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution, or has Nokia support any suggestions.  I've only just downloaded Ovi Suite from the website, so assume it is the very latest.

Also, the E72 Bluetooth function will not connect with my Audi car telephone system.  This is a major disappointment.  The E71 does, (and even my old Nokia 6300), but the E72 doesn't.  What the heck have Nokia done and is there a solution to it?  I got this phone only to find 2 of the main reasons for getting it don't work!  I am more than a little irritated.

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Hi,

I have recently purchased N900 and I am struggling really bad to download Map Data to my N900. I have latest Nokia OVI suite : 2.2.1.23

The issue I am facing is that whenever I go to ->view->go to-> map it tries to connect to Nokia MAP server but in thee end I get “Connection Timeout” “The connection to ovi Maps server time out”.

My laptop is connected to Wifi AP and My N900 is connected via USB in PC Suite mode to the laptop. My N900 is also connected to the same Wifi AP as my laptop.

The only issue is that the GPRS connection that I have on my N900 supports only WAP browsing as of now. I dig little more into Ovi Suite option and I noticed that there is option “Connect to Internet” but setting for the same doesn’t allow me to specify my WiFi AP.

How can I make Ovi Suite either use PC connection to Wifi or let it use N900 connection to Wifi so that it can download map data?

I see that one person has already submitted the same query:

/t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/Ovi-Suite-Won-t-Connect-to-Internet/td-p/758208

Any known solution to this?

Thanks,

V

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

OK I have done all the remove, reinstall and uncheck stuff, Contacts, Photos, Messages and Music sync just fine BUT I cannot get my Nokia97mini to Sync with Outlook 2007 on my Vista PC. It just says preparing to sync calendar and tasks and remains in this state.... forever... I even cleared out all the appointments in the Nokia (somwhere else someone suggested this) but to no avail....

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Hi Justin10me,

For your Outlook Calender wrong time issue, check is your PC timezone, your mobile timezone and also your outlook timezone all three are set to the same timezone (DST also should be the same if applicable). Most likely this should be causing this issue.

E72 supports the following bluetooth profiles.

A2DP, AVRCP, BIP, DUN, FTP, GAP, GAVDP, GOEP, HFP, HID, HSP, OPP, PBAP, SAP, SDP, SPP

Check with your car manual if it support the relevent profile for pairing this mobile to your car system.

Also are u getting any error message when u try to connect. please me more specific abt your bluetooth issue.

Regards,
Diwa

If you like my post, kindly acknowlege the same by giving a kudos to me :smileyhappy:

Re: Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.1.23 has been released - update now!

Ovi has never worked for me. 5800 Xpress Music, Xp sp3 totally failed was advised to go back to Sp2. I now have an Xp Sp2 installation and the latest 2.2.1.23 Ovi downloaded.

I deleted all Nokia s/w from system and rebooted both PC and mobile. I disconnected from interent. I removed the ovi from the task bar. I stood on my head in the corner and clapped my feet.

I installed ovi from scratch with internet still disconnected.

This completed. I invoked Ovi. I followed instrustion to connect my nokia device. It connected via USB and has been named - internet still disconnected.

It has a 'doing something' icon spinning for all its worth with the annotation 'Setting up'

It has been doing it for over 30 mins and I suspect will keep doing nothing for eternity or until the k/b simply fuses into the desk.

How Nokia can possible affect to retake their once lofty position and take a big bite out of Apple when they clearly do not know how to test software and specify systems that will work is a mystery only those sitting in Nokia towers can fathom.

Stronly siggest farming out / outsourcing, all s/w to individuals and companies who care about releasing working product.
