Hi all,
we have just updated Nokia Support Discussions and introduced a few new features and improvements.
I hope you like the changes! Here are the most important ones:
Kudos system has replaced ratings
- all registered members can now give "kudos points" to any post. Just click on "Kudos!" for that post. The number shows how many users have given kudos to that particular post.
- kudos leaderboards show the most kudoed posts and post authors for each board
- the previous rating system (Was this question helpful yes/no) has been removed. So you can only give positive feedback per post.
- the existing ratings have been converted into kudos points, so most likely you already have some kudos points
- a certain amount of kudos will be required to reach the highest ranks (Sage -> Professor -> etc.)
New text editor
- more and easier options for editing text and inserting images, smilies or links
New page layout
- the personal info sidebar is now visible on the main page only, on all other pages it has been replaced by horizontal links on the top of the page
- this way there is more space on the page for all Discussions topics
Improved Messenger for private messages
- uses the new text editor, doesn't open in a pop-up anymore
- quoting the private message you are replying to is now possible
Improved search
- using the Discussions search within a board - say "Nseries" - restricts the results to that board. Searching from the main page gives results from all boards.
Rss feed link bug fixed
- All links in the rss feeds from any Discussions site now point to the correct domain. Previously all links in the rss feeds from the UK or USA site pointed to the Europe site.
- Note that you can create feeds for any post, board or category, or any keyword (first search for the keyword -> "search options" -> "subscribe" ). If you use the iGoogle homepage, pick up our iGoogle gadget (click on the Google link on the Discussions main page.)
Any comments, questions, further ideas? Is there anything that doesn't work the way you'd expect it to?
Kind regards,
vandelay & Nokia Support Discussions team

It's a great improvement so far, thanks vandelay!
The message editor is great and has been needed for sometime now.
Is there a way to change the language of the spell checker? It seems to be set to US English and I can't find an option to change it. If not it's not that important. ![]()

I don't think so.. the in-built spell checker would have been available but hasn't been included before. Since Discussions was launched on the Nokia UK website, a US English spell checker was not very useful at the time. It seems you can teach it new words - I wonder if the library for new words is shared for everyone, or is it just a personal library..?
Too bad the Firefox spell check doesn't work anymore.

Cheers. The firefox spellchecker will be missed ![]()
I do like the way it learns words. My guess is it's a personal dictionary.

It depends on your connection speed, but yes, there is a lot to download before you can start typing your response.
Incidentally, it is now impossible to compose messages on this forum with the S60 built-in browser. The whole GUI editor seems to be incompatible with that browser.

Well spotted - we'll see if it's possible to offer the old, simpler editor as an alternative.

I only hope this new kudos will not create a race between the members ![]()
Anyway, good work!

I'm hoping that kudos and the competition that it brings will improve quality.
There's too many people on here that post utter rubbish for the sake of it. For example check out the posts by some 'sages', many are wrong or just don't make sense yet he keeps on posting and misleading.
I believe that the moderators should be more strict with people who post purely to rack up the post count, at any cost.

Yes psychomania, that's what I was reffering too...
And the quality is to talk when you know you can help, or think you can help, otherwise the forum tends to transform into another forum, where you can't find anything... But anything, this forum is - from my opinion, really well structured, and I usually attend forums... ![]()
Keep the good job...!

Also Opera doesn't support!

It's a known problem with the new board software.
The leaderboard is the correct one.

Hi,
Why dont you consider one kudo (or more) for the solution accepted by the user. I dont want to broadcast myself to give kudos to me from other users. Although getting kudos is not main concern for all of us, but resolving their issue
