Re: Ovi music player not working

Hello Farang, It's finally working for me too, although via a different solution/s. Windows Vista Update flagged a message "solution found" with and accompanying Ovi symbol. So updated vista. Then had to reinstall ovi, find the original phone that started the account, re-register computer. Changed language to English UK. Works. Now before anyone claps hands and says see it's your setings, I'll say the hoops one have to go through to get this to work are a disgrace and its no wonder Apple is taking Nokia down month by month. Re: Ovi music player not working

Everyone

Just delete the DB file as per a few posts back, then see if it restarts. Worked fine for me. Much easier than reinstalling or re-downloading anything. Yes it's a pain especially as I've just bought an iPod Touch for my wife which is so much slicker and hassle-free. I still think it's worth having the Comes With Music option though, which is the greatest thing since sliced bread for a music nut like me. :smileyhappy:

Re: Ovi music player not working

Okay, don't know if this has been posted before but I'll post it just in case as there still seems to be a lot of people affected.  Installed this on Vista, takes forever to start up then crashes when clicking a button.  Same on 7.  Tried deleting the MDataStore.db3 file as previously mentioned, still not working.

Now normally with older software I use the 'run as administrator feature' on Vista and 7, but Ovi Player is recent.  Still, thought I'd give it a go.  And you know what - it worked!  Startup time was reduced to seconds, and now all the buttons respond instantly without a crash!  Works in 7, not tried it in Vista - I only boot into that OS for certain features.

There's still a hurdle to jump though to do this - on 7 at least, anyway.  You can't right click the icon in the Start Menu - that'd be too easy.  Instead I had to go to the installation folder (for me it was 'C:\Program Files\Nokia\Ovi Player'), then right click NokiaOviPlayer.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'.  Accept any security prompts and up it comes!

If it does work then you can tell it to always open as administrator - right click the NokiaOviPlayer.exe file, and on the Compatibility tab, tick 'Run this program as an administrator'.  The Start Menu shortcut will now work - you'll still have to accept a security prompt each time, but it's better than nothing!

All of this could have been avoided though if Nokia would have just developed their software better!

Re: Ovi music player not working

i had Ovi working for about 36 hours. Then Vista ran an auto service pack update at 9:32 am and Ovi immedaitely responded by refusing to work. Did get in a few downloads before it was again incompatible. As for the solutuions I've read, changing the language, deleting the data file, running as edmin, etc, if I see three consecutinve posts saying any work I will be most surprised. Anyway I'm over it and myNokias have been given away.

Re: Ovi music player not working

I also had the problem with player stopping immediately after launch after update to vista sp2.

I tried clean reinstall, deleting db file, well anything I saw on the different boards, to no available. After some time and observation, I noticed that the player crashed at the very moment the drivers were being added to the list on the left menu. In a desesperate attempt, I ejected the game dvd which was in my first dvdrom.... and... voila... The player is now working fine.

Hope it may help some people out there.

Re: Ovi music player not working

I had a problem with Ovi Player. It kept crashing every time i started to play anything from there. Then I read crash report more precisely and there was a mention about ffdshow.ax. So, I deleted ffdshow and everything is now working okay.

If you have ffdshow and your Ovi Player is crashing while playing, I suggest you to delete ffdshow. I don't know what codec exactly caused that but deleting all works :smileyhappy:

Re: Ovi music player not working

I got mine N97 mini for two days ago. My problem is that when I try to start OVI player I get this message:

"There has been a problem starting Ovi Player.

Running the Repair option for Ovi Player in the Add Remove Programs section of Windows Control Panel may resolve this problem"

Screenshot attached.

This happened from the first try - the player never succeded to start. I tried starting from Ovi Suite, Quick icon, directly from folder ".../Nokia/Ovi Player/" and from Start menu - the problem is same.

Troubleshooting:

I removed completly OVI suite (with all parts, drivers etc.) and installed latest downloaded from Nokia site  = NOGO

I removed the music database MDataStore.3db from my local folder = NOGO

HINTS?

Re: Ovi music player not working

I tried to made OVI music player to work after last actualization, but it was impossible, and besides that, it never recognized the cell phone connected with the USB cable.  The best decision was to unisntall definitively the program.  No more troubles for now on!
