Mostly, my 5800 handles my music files OK. However occasionally it just deletes some of the songs. So I have to copy them on again. Mostly this just happens once but sometimes again. Several different albums have been affected this way.
More frustratingly, I have a particular album that is constantly incorrectly filed in the Library. I have tried ripping a couple of formats. As wma files, they are presented correctly but some songs are regularly erased completely. They are suddenly not on the phone at all! As mp3s they appear as Unknown Artist in the Library even though they appear correct and all file details including performing artist are correct in the file manager. They are assigned correctly in Ovi Music but are not assigned correctly on the phone.
These problems are irritating. Any solution?
Thanks Paul.

Damn, well today I have lost a complete album, half the tunes from another and now I have noticed a large part of a singe track in missing... very frustrating...

Again, today several songs have mysteriously disappeared. Still in library but no longer on card. Several from a recent (new) download that has been playing fine until I connected to OVI and an entire album of songs by an African performer that repeatedly disappear or become unplayable. I have long used one track from this CD as my phone calling sound so I am immediately aware when the songs are deleted because the phone reverts to default. Seems mostly to happen if I let OVI open when I connect to my PC. Curiously, the African CD is listed correctly in the OVI database.

Well tonight takes the cake in this continuing saga.... I left my 5800 connected to my Windows 7 computer for an hour or more... I forgot it was connected and in mass storage mode. When I went to transfer more music I had discovered earlier had been lost, guess what, all music was missing! Curiously the phone telsl me there is still only a gig of memory spare so I am running check disk to see what can be repaired / recovered from the memory card....

Well I copied ALL my files off the micro sd card, formatted the card and copied the files back. Now the space on the card seems correct and as of today, no fuirther problems. As someone else has suggested, faulty or corrupted memory card seems to be the explantion.

Well that didn't last long! Last night I found numerous "random" songs missing, copied then back and a couple of albums worth are gone again today! Guess I will be trying a new micro sd card next! Wow is this wearing me down?!

Sorry I didn't reply before, I only just noticed your thread.
When you say the tracks are deleted, do you mean that they are physically no longer on the card (ie: you can't see them when you look in the phone's File Manager or whilst connected to the PC in mass storage mode); or is it just that the tracks/albums no longer appear in your Music Player?
The reason I ask this is that the Music Player relies on a database which contains details of all music files irrespective of where they are stored in the phone memory or memory card, and sorting by album, artist etc. within Music Player relies on the ID3 tags in each individual music file, not the physical location on the storage memory.
I suspect that there is an issue with this database rather than your music, and that the tracks aren't actually deleted but that the phone 'forgets' that it has them. I would recommend that you first check that you try either a software update or reformat the phone with the code *#7370#.
If you are not on the latest software for your phone, then try the update, otherwise give the reformat a try.

Well it has been over a week now with my new Sandisk 8gb micro sd card and so far so good. No deletions I have noticed yet. When I say deletions, I mean the tracks were totally disappearing from file manager! Phtt. There have been additional problems with the library but even the library seems to be behaving itself as well. In the past, each time I have refreshed it, a particular artist has been called unknown, even though the name is correct in file manager and one other album has also been called unknown. In both cases I have checked the mp3 tags and file names and they have been correct. They have not been recognized by the library however. Anyway, the bigger problem of losing music from the sd card altogether does not seem to be an issue now. I will give it a few weeks before I call this problem solved, though.

Happily, now a month or more without losing any songs with the new micro SD card. This is a big improvement. Clearly a problem with the Nokia supplied one! Only problem I have noted is that the music library has suddenly decided to split up a previously correctly filed album, following a recent refresh. The album contains 6 bonus tracks. Three have been split off in a separate album. Why? It kept them all together for months and several refreshes.... This is annoying.

Its now Februray and I just upgraded to a 16gb memory card. All remains well with no musuc files disappearing so I think that a faulty micro sd card was the problem. Still can't explain however why some music that is listed by correct artist and album in Ovi is mis-filed in the library as "unknown". Media Player sees them correctly and the mp3 tags seem correct but the library stubbornly labels certain music incorrectly.

OK, so we are just abut there... good quality memory card (I hope) seems to hang on to the music, and a sollution to the Library's unknown files problem... thanks to
