Help! - No Metatag info when transfering music

Can anyone please help me I'm at my wits end!

I'm trying to transfer music via Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Music Manger to my N80.

Music Manager has scanned and picked up all my iTunes M4A music files, and understood all of the metatag information perfectly (album, artist, track etc).

However, when I transfer to the phone, it refuses to group up my songs by artist and album etc, and simply lumps all of the tracks, ungrouped into one directory without any metatag info at all (I.e. They all appear as "Unknown Artist").

Has anyone got any idea how to remedy this???

Any help is much appreciated, as I was hoping to use the N80 instead of my iPod as its always on me.

Thanks!

This is not really my area of expertise, but just a few thoughs to this: I think your music that has been produced by iTunes has artist etc. metadata in "apple-format" and most likely the Nokia phone you have does not support that format.

M4A is called AAC too. And AAC has no function to display Artist, Album, Album art, etc. Only the title of the Song appears in Nokia N80 or other players, except Apple iPod. The only formats supported to display infos of the song and Album Artwork in the player is MP3 which has ID Tag3.

I hope i help you.

AAC does support metadata, your information is incorrect. You can use a program like "Tag&rename" to edit all the metadata information of AAC files (.aac or .m4a) including Album art.

The only thing is I don't know which models support metadata on AAC files, the only one I know for sure is N91

Yes I know for the fact that you can edit all information in metadata in AAC but it doesn't appear in all players like N80 or others displaying Artist Track, Album Name, or Album Artwork. Only iPod or as what you say N91 can display complete information.

I tried this many times and download some converters but it doesn't work for AAC.

iTunes support N91 thats why it produce complete infos and Album Artwork.

Re: Help! - No Metatag info when transfering music

Hi

Using the M4A option in the Preference tab in Music Manager DOES NOT output the metadata tags it is supposed to show when transferred to the phone. I have tried this a number of times but it doesnt seem to work (when ripping, not sure in transferring the tracks). The AAC format in the Preference menu does have metadata tags in it so I think to have tags you must use the AAC format instead of M4A. I also noticed this in the latest Audio Manager 5.0 (music management software of Nokia before MM). Still have problems with M4A tagging...

Well, MM is still in Version 1.0, so we must hope that this gets sorted out quickly on other versions after it. Presently, I use the WMP10 for transferring tracks to my N3250 because its syncing is more steamlined and easier than this Music Manager, which is still buggy. Maybe you can use WMP10 anyway to transfer your tracks because what I know is that all Xpressmusic phones (3250, N91, N80 included) are capable of WMP10 syncing since they can play WMA tracks.

cheers.

Your right. AAC format does it. Thanks for that. That's answered the problem I posted earlier today.

Re: Help! - No Metatag info when transfering music

Hi Mike,

When you create an aac file in Nokia Music Manager V1.0 and then upload it to your N80, does it actually play in stereo ?

I just get mono when I do this (though the FM radio is stereo, so it isn't a faulty headset)

Re: Help! - No Metatag info when transfering music

Hi Geoff,

The ACC files I had created in NMM V1.0 does play in stereo on my N80. Only thing is that I upload it manually via uPnP or via a miniSD cardreader jacked into my PC. Not sure if anything will get changed if you upload via NMM.

Hope this helps. Cheers. ^_^

Re: Help! - No Metatag info when transfering music

This is weird for the N8. The metatags are not read from the Music Player. However, if you opened the file directly from the File Manager the metadata info is read!
