3gp playback on 6230i

I am unable to playback 3gp files downloaded from the Web on my MMR card and they do not appear in the Gallery. Why is this? I thought 3gp files are compatible with this phone. I am also having trouble with .wav files.

All advice welcome.

You have to use the Nokia software to move the file. Same as with music - if you use Explorer then it sees the file but won't play it.

Re: 3gp playback on 6230i

thats not true, you can use whatever method you wish to transfer the files to your phone. a lot of people here have already said you can use a card reader.

This issue is more likely the files you are trying to move to your phone are just not compatible, for instance .wav files - you cant play these on any nokia phone straight out of the box.

are the 3gpp files you have converted from another source? If they are not, have they been encoded for your phone specifically?

Re: 3gp playback on 6230i

The 3gp files were downloaded from the Web. Thanks for the advice re. Wav files. Can you recommend a (free) site for converting Wav or other audio files to MP3?

Interestingly, the 1Gb MMR card I bought from MobyMemory didn't fit properly and wasn't recognised by the phone until I stuck it down with Blu-Tack!

Re: 3gp playback on 6230i

you keep saying MMR, isnt that an injection you give to kids to prevent measles, mumps and rubella? lol

Seriously, i think you mean MMC - it stands for multimedia card. If you had to stick it down with blu-tak that isnt good, was it to large to fit in the phone? If that is the case you may have an SD-Card. These are pretty much identical to MMC, most devices that use MMC can use SD-Cards also...apart from Nokia phones. Also, 1gb is too large for this phone, many people on these boards are saying that they cant use a 1gb card, I think one of the mods/admins has said the phone does not support a 1gb card etc.

As regards converting wav etc, I have no idea. But if you take a look at the N91 that supports wav files... http://www.n-gage.com/nseries/v2/media/product/tech_specs/en

Re: 3gp playback on 6230i

MMR? Where did that come from? Have a festive Ho Ho Ho!

It's def. an MMC card, but fractionally smaller than the cargo bay. That and the fact that the 6230i relies on the battery and cover for the card to make contact is the problem. Anyway, the blu-tak seems to work and I'm on the hunt for an MP3 convertor. Thanks again for your help.

Re: 3gp playback on 6230i

Have to disagree with the whole no-1GB memory card thing. I am currently using a Kingston MMC+/1GB card in my 6230 and it works ok.
The only problem i have is the phone says it is only 223MB but it will read all 1GB of data i put on there.
