How can I make MKV (720p/1080p) play smooth?

Hello!

 

I am using VLC but 720p MKV-Files are not playing smooth... How can I improve the performance?

Turn on DXVA feature in your player.

I am using totalmedia theatre. I think it uses the powerdvd engine. flawless playback in fullscreen at 720p and 1080p output throught hdmi,

its little bit difficult but you can convert that

Converting MKV movies is a good choice. But you should choose the right tool.

Hi Argonautik,

 

Thank your for your post and welcome to the Nokia Discussion Forums.

 

There could various reason why there could be a stutter on you MKV playback. It could be to the codecs installed or how the mkv's are encoded (bitrate, performance level). Some MKV's have different profile levels which could cause incompatibility.

 

So you can use a tool like Mediainfo which will give you details about the mkv file (resolution, bitrate, audio codec etc) and from the information you gather you may need to convert these.
