Why am i getting charged

Hi

I have purchased a Nokia E63 , at the moment I live in France but am visiting family in Scotland.I purchased a sim free phone which i have placed my French Orange pay as you go in it and it works fine. I have set up my pop3 email and connected to a wifi router where i am staying. I have been recieving emails through the wifi router ( so i think ) but with in 12 hours i have eaten up 22 euros of credit on my pay as you go sim card . How is this possible if i am connected to a wifi router.

Can any one help

Kind regards

Paolo

Re: try this

 Hi

Thanks for the info, i had already done that so not sure why this as happened. Is it some thing to do with the data packages I have received as I roaming. Is there any way of turning the 3g off or gprs so i know that i am only using the wifi router.

Regards

Re: try this

To ensure you never connect through 3G  or GPRS you can always delete the Access Points associated with both of them.

There was a similar thread recently by user "missmontana" look for that for a similar case.

I would put the phone in "offline" mode and then try to check email.  Which accesspoint does it connect to?  Or rather put it offline mode and then connect to the WiFi connection and then check your email.  make sure your operator's connection is listed below all WiFi access points in the priority lists, or delete it completely if don't want to risk roaming data charges.

Another way to end up using packet data without knowing is by using the A-GPS feature...have you been using Nokia Maps while traveling?

And one more is the Real Video application by default may use your operator's network for data instead of WiFi.

Re: Why am i getting charged

Hi

Thanks for all your help, I only just got the phone and I may have breifly used the real player on you tube and look at the maps but turned it off straight away.

The credit on my phone went within about 12 hours of having the phone.

Is it easy to turn the phone to offline, the only way i can seem to do this is by taking the sim car out, is there a quicker way.

Regards

Paolo

You shortcut to switch to offline mode is as follows. Give the power button a quick stab. This should bring up a menu. Scroll up or down the menu and select Offline.
