For a while now I have been trying to figure out why my available C: drive (phone memory) has been gradually shrinking without me adding any new files or applications. I think I have now figured it out. I had noticed that when I notice another reduction in available space some could be reclaimed by clearing privacy data in the Web Browser, even if I hadn't used the Web Browser since the last time I had done this.
This morning I noticed another drop in available space just after receiving and deleting a number of e-mails in Nokia Messaging. I had just checked my available space before I received the e-mails and checked again just after deleting them. I then cleared my privacy data in the Web Browser and regained most of it leaving me with .1MB less than before receiving the e-mails. WhenI first noticed this issue I had c.26MB available and presently have c.23.6MBa clearing privacy data in the Web Browser does not always solve this issue and never seems to reclaim it all. It looks to me like Nokia Messaging possibly keeps records in some sort of file/folder linked in part to the Web Browser cache, which it does not clear well enough and this residual is slowing absorbing my C: drive.
[UPDATE] Just uninstalled Nokia Messaging from my phone and my available C: drive space as now increased to 30.5MB. Now after the uninstall I have now rebooted my phone and gone to Sofwtare Update. It now lists "Nokia Messaging 10.0"with a file size of 2.443MB and I regained c.7MB. After re-install and set-up (login to http://email.nokia.com and request a re-install sms. On receipt of this your phone should automatically start Nokia Messaging at a screen requesting your password and prefered access point) I now have 26.8MB. Obviously the 2.443MB is the downloaded installation file size and not the space taken by installing the app. This still leaves having regained over 3MB by doing this.
Please Davis and the team over there at Nokia Messaging this needs sorting, although I'm sure you're probably alerady aware of the issue and working on it right now.

"Regarding N97 NM memory questions: The email client release we just did and the N97 PR2 are going to be a *big* help with this."
Hopefully this means everything will become rosey in when v20 FW releases.

I have found what I believe to be the major cause for this issue! I believe all of us have dealt with the issue of the message location changing from the E:mass memory to the C drive whenever the phone is connected to the PC. Nokia’s answer is to simply go into the message settings and change it back.
Well I’m here to tell you this answer is simply not acceptable! What happens is that each time this occurs, the Nokia Messaging client creates another file on the C drive and never deletes the old one. So every time you connect the phone to the PC you get another junk file in the C drive. Obviously these files will take up space over time, especially if you don’t change the setting back to the E drive right away.
What I’ve been doing to remedy this is to uninstall the Nokia Messaging client and reinstall it. Today my C drive was down to 8.7Mb. After uninstalling the client it went up to 17.4Mb, which is a difference of 8.7 Mb. Quite a bit for an application that is only supposed to consume 2Mb of memory! After the reinstall the C drive was at 15.3Mb and after the setup of the client it was at 12.8Mb. So overall I was able to recover 4.1Mb. This was not my worst case scenario and I have recovered upwards of 8Mb by following this procedure, depending on how long I let it go.
So with all this said we currently have two options, forgo using the memory munching client all together or go through this cleanup procedure on a periodic basis which is usually once a week for me! I simply have not found a client that performs the functions as well so I am currently opting to continue with my time consuming routine for now.
ATTENTION NOKIA SUPPORT TEAM! I had identified what I believe to be a major problem with the Nokia Email client. PLEASE investigate my findings and provide a fix to this issue!!

I have the same problem. This problem makes Messaging App useless.
