Hi, can anyone out there please tell me how to save sent emails in the sent folder on N8.
Am with vodafone Ireland.
already tried with "others" at set-up stage, still using this, but can't seem to get it right.

everything is ok for me here ONLY AFTER I start using the decline-terms-of-service-and-use-imap method.
BUT I'm still having the problem when deleting an email trough mobile. it just don't delete on server.

@matt_t
I know that´s how it´s supposed to be.
In real life the N8 connects when you press sync (or the 5 minutes is up) and stay online for 5 minutes.
In that 5 minutes period you will receive mail notification instantly.
If you set sync interval to 5 minutes it will be online and receive notications all the time.
Try it - it works.
Oh - I forgot to mention one thing. If you terminate the mail app, you will not receive notifications until next sync time (up to 5 minutes).
In imap specs it´s called Imap Idle and works just like most other push systems. It was just invented many years ago, before someone came up with the concept "Push mail".
The last 3-4 Nokia phones I have had (since N73) supported Imap idle/push.
Thunderbird (mail client for pc) uses Imap idle/push like that.
The only difference is that the other clients/handsets doesn´t drop the connection every 5 minutes, but stays online. And that is what should happen when the N8 is set to "After Notification" (or what it´s called in the english language version).
I see only 2 major problems with the N8 mail client (in relation to gmail + imap)
1) Why this silly Nokia/Ovi service that will screw up everything if you accept the "terms of usage" ???
2) Connection is allways dropped after 5 minutes.
If they are fixed (no 1 is just annoying, but no 2 needs to be fixed), I am again a happy Nokia user.
Otherwise I think Andoid is next for me.
The native Android mail client is not better than the Nokia one - but it´s easier to find a replacement for Android.
I tried mail on an iphone some time ago. Their Imap support stinks big time !!

I have to chime in here. The older Nokia products worked the way you described but the N8 is different. A new connection will happens 5 minutes after the last connection ends.
The point being, there is always a 5 minutes of disconnected time (between connections). During this time your not connected and will not receive email till the next connection.
So the worst case is you would not receive notification up to 5 minutes after it arrives in your mailbox.

@talkenrain
Hmmm - **bleep**. You are right.
I stand corrected.
I am (almost) sure it worked different on the other N8 I borrowed for testing around christmas time.
I had it on my desk right next to the pc. And announcements came in at seconds interval.
But on this one it connects every 5 minutes and disconnects after af few seconds.
Only on manual sync it holds the connection for 5 minutes.
Hmm - different software versions - or just dumb luck ??
Sorry for misleading you all.

When the N8 was originally released, the push system was working fine and there were no problems with the password prompt either. You've not mislead anyone, people have simply become a victim of circumstance.

Please enable imap support for preconfigured gmail account. It really annoys me. All I want is to be able to download e-mail to N8 and delete them locally but not from gmail server aswell. The unavailability of this feature makes the phone e-mail client totally useless for me as I always keep mails on gmail untouched so I can access them anywhere and from any device.
I tried a workaround with declining TOS and configuring gmail via imap manually taking info from http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en
Aditionally, account created this way is buggy and having issues with sync.

If you want to be able to delete messages locally but never from the server, you probably want to use POP3 instead of IMAP (the idea of IMAP is that the client has a "view" of the server, not an independent copy).
But please double check if the e-mail client of the N8 supports that..

I read that some people at least got Yahoo! mail to be pushed, but unforntunately that is not working for me. When I set it to soonest, mails never arrive. Only a manual sync sorts things out.
Does anyone know a solutions to this?
Also tried Gmail and Ovi Mail. Gmail sucks big time and Ovi Mail gets pushed now and then, but I don't like the ads in a sent Ovi mail.

But that's the whole point of having a 'mobile' phone. So we can recieve mail over 'mobile' internet. We cannot be connected to a WIFI spot all the time.
Plus, Nokia is going backwards by disabling Nokia Messaging Service over wap, as it was available, with no problems, on my N79.

nokia n8.
My patience is starting to go to an end. I cant set up my workmail thats is an imap/smtp account (.net) with the regular email-client even though i've tried everything mentioned on this forum.
Is an solution coming?
I dont find it good enough with "mobile documents" or the other apps because the safety. I dont want to give my emails to a 3 party.

I'm losing patience also, I need a push email and I don't think it's gonna happen. Nokia probably doesn't know what to do anymore.

I wouldn't be suprised if Nokia has already fixed the problem as part of the PR1.1-update. I think when that update arrives a lot of the problems we are having, are gone.

I hope so, cause I'm about to return my phone. Why can't they just make it work like the E72 does, when I had that phone the email is flawless, I get the email instantly as in lighting fast.

could you please explain how you did that?
