Hello,
Couple of points related to Nokia Messaging memory usage. Nokia Messaging stores, by default, 2kb of each message on the device. Even if you have hundreds of emails, they don't take up much space until you start getting into attachments.
The deleted items folder in Nokia Messaging does not clear itself automatically in this release, so if you've been deleting a lot of emails on the device and are encountering issues with memory, go into that folder and choose options to empty it.
We are investigating the memory consumption on the N97 with Nokia Messaging, as some of you have reported. The reason we don't offer message storage on the memory card is that removing of the memory card with the messages stored on there could cause some serious issues with correctly syncing your email.
We do hear you on the calls for storage somewhere other than the C drive. The amount of space that the emails should take up on your device is minimal, but we are open to feedback and fixing problems as they arise.

Davis,
What would help N97 users more is if you allowed the actual application to be installed to the unremovable mass memory instead of the phone memory.
Due the the amount of preinstalled rubbish like trial apps that can't even be removed when expired we are very limited on phone memory. Whoever had the bright idea to make trial apps part of the firmware should be fired!
Also if it's possible to store SMS/MMS on the mass memory whats so different about emails?

I agree. The applications like Nokia Email are very good, but the limitations to use them on C: is really messy, and makes them impossible to use. The other day, I was doing a photo shoot for a local newspaper, but was unable to mail the photos ower to the desk because the phone ran out of memory.
I hope that the next versions of these programs gives me as a user more flexibility, ie. some advanced settings. If not, you should bundle applications like gmail and opera and focus on letting them integrate more closely (like make them not have to ask for access to use the network etc.)

First of all, thank you for your information Davis.
But agree with you that probably the best solution would be install Nokia Messaging in drive c, at least give us the option to do a "bad thing".
I understand from your reasons that the problem is when the Mobile is connected to a pc or a mac in a massive storage mode that all the applications of the phone that are installed in the massive storage / card are running has to be closed could make a big mess to the mobile ? So big mess that with a restart will not be corrected?
At least leave us the opportunity, the problem is not Nokia Messaging, the problem is the lack of space in C: drive in Nokia N97 what is supposed to be the flagship mobile of the company...

As netoak stated in the above post. My problem with N97 is the same, I have a number of applications that needs to be installed on (E) Mass Storage. By running these applications and have a message comes through. Be it, text, picture, multimedia, it will get stored on the phone memory which eventually gets full and can only be deleted as it cannot be copied or moved (connect to PC back up, delete original from phone memory and then restore from PC to Mass Storage is a royal joke) to Mass Storage.
What good is a flagship phone that meant to be rich for multimedia when a couple of e-mails or messages with attachments will render it's useless.
So if these issues below are not looked at I'm soon to trade my N97 in for something else, and neither are my friends and family going to get N97 because they already know that their non-N97 phones works fine and mine is having loads of issues.
Surely these can be fixed in the next major update of your firmware?
- Functionality to copy or move selected message from C to E. We're jumping through hoops just to do the most simplest of tasks like moving messages. Inability to move messages and e-mails between these two storage locations is really, really, 1990's and not mobile computer as Nokia trying claim N97 is.
- Settings to be persistent that messages go to E when stuff on E are being used.

Yes! I just loaded Nokia Messaging on my N97, I basically thought, they can't be so STUPID as to not allow me to ATLEAST have my mail stored somewhere other than the ANEMIC c:\ device. We'll after an awesome experience with the N95 and E71, I guess just Nokia put their third string in for developing the N97. Look, I don't mean to to mean, but come on,... I spend 600+ on this stupid thing and it is quickly making me look like the stupid one. I guess I'm going to have to get an iPhone afterall, and my friends were right and I am wrong.
Someone from Nokia needs to get their head out and actually talk to some real users on their phones. Maybe they do this, and I'm wrong... but from what I've seen so far on the N97, I DON'T THINK SO. If interested, I will happily beta test for you all, because frankly, from what I've seen in the nokia trajectory the past 18 months, it aint looking good....

Dear Davis,
Nokia really has to look into this. I always received notification on low memory on c drive and asking me to delete files or close some applications. I use this Nokia Messaging for my office emails and definitely I received more than hundred of emails everyday. Due to this problem, it force me to read and clear the email from time to time. This is really uncomfortable and no point of buying big storage card.
The email also always hang if I received a lot of email. Even after I clear all the emails, it won't sync my new email. I have to go through the Nokia Messaging website, delete and re-create the mailbox.

All I want is two things:

Yes, I faced the same problem too. Since the N97 mass storage is unremovable, why don't nokia messaging allow us to store our email in mass storage.
Frankly say, I am damn disappointed to get this phone. I should go ahead to Android, which seems to have better support and responsive team.
There is too much problem I faced on N97, the touch screen is sensitive, but the response is slow, the expired quickoffice cannot be remove, now nokia messaging consume all my c drive space.
Even my previous sony erricson phone work better and faster than it.
Really a bad design and product. I feel regret to believe those good comment posted on CNET.

Folks,
Many months later, I hope we've got the solution. However, it seems the Messaging in N86 allows to set C: (Phone Memory), E: (Mass Memory), F: (microSD card). It's under...

Is there a solution already for setting up the Nokia Messaging on the N97 to work with other memory than the limited C: ?
Thanks!

Davis,
Why have you not replied to any of the queries. Didn't Nokia see so many users complain about the memory issue? No wonder Nokia is losing market share to other smart phones....

Nokia employees are here only on a voluntary basis as this is primarily a user to user support forum. It could also be that Davis has moved on to other things, different project or even left the company.
Anyway, is it still a problem? I haven't noticed any memory issues on my E72 despite 7 mailboxes in NM and an MfE mailbox and a lot of mail.
