Nokia replied a few days later with the below. My NM account has been re-set and working fine again.
Just wish to know how this could have happened.
Cheers,
P!

My subscription just calcelled also because i switched from e63 to e72, and i received the email below in all of my 3 mailboxes but only inside the E72.
I don't understant why they are doing this since I provided my username and my password for the account, it shouldn't concern them from what device I am connecting.
This is really annoying.
By the way, on the login page of the nokia messaging website, there's a list on the right listing among other things that you can do after you login that you can extend your account to another device, but THERE"S NO WAY YOU CAN DO THAT ONCE YOU LOGIN.
I'm so dissapointed with these guys, i really like their hardware, their services suck.
Dear Nokia Messaging customer,
The Nokia Messaging account you have been enjoying came as part of the purchase of your nokia phone. According to our records, that phone has been transferred to another person.
Your Nokia Messaging account has been deactivated. Your account is safe - it cannot be accessed by the new owner of your Nokia phone. Please visit the Nokia Messaging website (http://email.nokia.com/account) to see a list of Nokia phones that run with Nokia Messaging.
We look forward to serving you again.
Sincerely,
Nokia Messaging team

I get this every few months and it's happened again. My E72 is SIM free, not tied to any operator and has a lifetime NM subscription, yet every now and again it keeps reverting to cancelled.
I contact Nokia Care and go through a loop getting them to reset it.
When reset I have to sync and reset the phone many times until eventually the status updates. It usually goes to 'trial' state first and I get messages about my trial having expired!, then eventually it goes back to the "purchased with device" status and "active".
However this time around the phone still refuses to sync and I now get "Expiration notice" messages.
Nokia Care are being a little dismissive and say I need to talk to Orange as my NM is part of their bundle, but that's totally wrong. I don't have any plan with Orange, it's a SIM free phone and it's an E72 bought direct from Nokia which has an inclusive NM subscription regardless of operator. It's nothing to do with Orange.
I do however swap SIMs in the phone for complicated work purposes, but usually this is not a problem. Sometimes I haven't swapped the SIM in ages and it still cancels it and then I get a message saying I've sold my phone which is rubbish.
I'm fed up of it to be honest. Nokia Messaging has been terrible since day one and I've contacted Nokia Care a lot of times over this, had the phone reformatted many times, had my NM account reset many times.
I don't know where to go with it though. I'm not going to pay for a third party commercial product even if it does the job better. I just want what I bought with the phone to work, or my money back but I doubt I can get that (not after a year).
P.S. Yes, if you transfer from one phone to another it will cancel it. NM appears to be tied to the phone. The E72 especially as the subscription is part of the phone. However in cases like mine I haven't changed the phone!

Yeah, I think I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't like a SIM change.
Thing is though, my NM subscription is part of the phone, not the operator so I should be able to stick whatever SIM I like in there. In fact that's the reason I bought a SIM free phone direct from Nokia. I know this isn't the case on many other Nokia's but it is with SIM free E72s (from the UK at least). They just need a flag on the account to ignore SIM changes.
I do notice there's a box for phone number in the NM settings. I could change the number when changing the SIM, but that's a lot of hassle and it may connect before I have a chance of changing it.
The odd thing though is sometimes I've been using the original SIM for ages and it just cancels my account for no reason, yet when swapping SIMs it's not bothered.
I have complicated reasons for SIM swapping at work though I may have to resort to a second phone but that has further complications.
