I've just installed the latest version of Nokia Messaging on my E71 to allow me to sync my Hotmail Live email account. Setup went ok but I can't get it to sync mey inbox at all. The sent folder has synced and I can compose and send emails OK as well. Used to work perfectly with gmail - does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

Are you referring to the nokia messaging found frm www.email.nokia.com.
If yes then how did you manage to set up te hotmail account in the first place.
The Nokia messaging only supports web-based e-mails like gmail and not http mails such as hotmail.

Hotmail Plus (which gives full access via mail clients) is available in some countries now.
In the version of Nokia Mail that I use (I haven't yet updatedto the latest), thre is no setting to influence the mail server settings as the app just diverts everything through the Nokia Messaging server - is there an option in your settings to chenge the details of your mail servers?

Sorry for the earlier post with the wrong info.
The last time i tried registering my hotmail, it was not supported...
Anyway thanks to you i do now have my hotmail set up.
I have just set up mine and it seems to be working perfectly.
After logging in thru the pc i added in the mailbox, then on my phone i just synced it to my g-mail the hotmail appeared.
Then it asked me to upgrade to the latest version and viola all set.
Perhaps you may try uninstalling the Nokia messaging from your phone and reinstall it by resending the settings from the website.

Hey - glad you managed to get it working.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times. I've also removed Windows Live from the handset. I've just set up a new account on hotmail with an @live.co.uk address rather than @msn.com - it works albeit a little tempramentaly. So now I wonder if it is problem with my Hotmail account for my @msn.com address - really weird. The only other thing I can think of is wiping the phone and starting again.

Thanks for your reply and further info.
For hotmail accounts on the Nokia email settings web page there are no advanced settings to choose from apart from the IMAP folders that you would like to sync, over and above the defaults of Inbox, Outbox, Sent, Drafts, Deleted. In my case, even when I select some of these they are not picked up by the phone.
I am using the correct username (email address) and password for my email Nokia Mail/my email account.
As I mentioned in my first post my sent box has synced on the phone but it isn't picking anything up at all for the inbox.
I might try upgrading the firmware on my E71 and have a fresh start to see if that makes any difference - but if anyone has any other suggestions, great!
....I have a google mail account set up and it's working fine - so that suggests to me that something is up with Hotmail - which may just be my account or my phone

I am having a few problems with the new nokia email software. It says on the setup/website that it can sync your folders too. I have about 8 folders set up in my hotmail account. I want to sync about 5 of them but when i choose all 5 it only actually shows 2 on the phone. And they are not fully synced.
Can anyone help?

Hello Tonysnake,
I was also experiencing this behavior until I learned that a subfolder will not appear within the Nokia Messaging client until there's an email in the subfolder. Furthermore, the email in the subfolder needs to less than 3 days old in order for the subfolder to be displayed within the Nokia Messaging application. Hope this helps.

I recently installed the emoze push email client to see how it worked with Hotmail. After a brief trial run I decided to go back to Nokia messaging but found that it would no longer sync my Hotmail email. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, deleting and recreating my account but it still wouldn't work. I also reinstalled the phone firmware but it didn't help either. Today I moved about 100 emails from my Hotmail inbox leaving around 15 and Nokia messaging started to sync without any problems - so perhaps this is one solution.
On a related note I came across Microsoft Phone Data Manager (beta) (http://specials.msn.co.in/sp09/pdm/index.asp) today which will sync Windows Live Contacts with the Nokia E71 and backup photos, videos and music. Seems to work ok, just wish it would do Windows Live Calendar as well.

I have been using Nokia Messaging for my Windows Live account and had a similar problem today where my inbox was not synching but other folders such as sent items were fine. Turns out an email sent to me with a word document was causing the issue. I just moved it to a folder I don't synch and all is fine now. Hope that helps.
