@mickymacmi

Are you in North America by chance? Or somewhere over the pond?

I'm able to get the account setup on email.nokia.com however not so much on the E71.

Yeah I'm in Australia using the "Virgin Mobile (resells Optus) network here"

Haven't had any issues getting the link to download via SMS, though I've tried just downloading it straight from the phone with less than desirable results.

I thought this e-mail client was directly accessing the mail servers, but it seems to be working through an intermediary server that periodically syncs with the target mail servers.

Anyone else see the same behaviour?

I haven't had any issues with running my E71 on IMAP. Perhaps your mail server software doesn't support IMAP idle, meaning that it continuely has to connect to the mail server to retrive the messages.

I'm finding that when I delete messages on my handset/on my PC that it takes effect in almost real time. Normally I get the messages to my handset about 30seconds after the sender sends them.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

i recently changed my password and forgot it! how can i restore it? when i click "forgot password" at the main page of http://email.nokia.com/ and enter the username I logged in with, it tells me "The user name you entered does not match any account on record. Please make sure that you have correctly entered the first email address you used when you signed up for Nokia Messaging." However, when I try to sign up for a new account with the same address, it tells me "The email address you entered is already registered to a Nokia Messaging account. Please log in to manage your account." An attempt to log in with the same address and password gives the error message "The user name and password you entered do not match any accounts on record. Please make sure that you have correctly entered the first email address you used when you signed up for Nokia Messaging."

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

Downloaded product version 5.0 build 9.5.0.43 (main) a couple of weeks back to my UK based Vodafone contracted N95 for the HTML support.  I now find that opening some HTML emails to read them crashes the application.

The UI sometimes completes painting the screen with the contents of the email before it crashes (just closes, no other ill effects experienced) and sometimes it doesn't even get that far.  In these instances it just crashes as soon as I hit the centre nav button on the keypad.

In all instances if I elect to 'reply' to these emails I can then see the contents and the app remains stable.

Anyone else seeing this?

Can't say I've seen any issues with this using it on my E71, though the interface does seem a little laggy at times... Perhaps your phone is running out of memory (RAM).

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

After a difficult time installing the nokia messaging client, I think I finally installed it correctly with the latest version (this morning from an SMS message).  However, it looks like my issue is still not solved and I'm not alone:

/discussions/board/message?board.id=messaging&thread.id=3354

The issue is that nokia messaging does not support TLS & plain text authentication when sending emails.

Furthermore, I was unable to use it to check my imap server which is configured as a standard imaps server using plain text authentication over ssl on port 993.  POPS works though on port 995, but pop has no notification capabilities.  I'd use the regular imap client on the nokia but it's so slow that it's easier to use webmail meant for PCs.

Conclusion, the E71 is an email phone that can neither receive no send email properly?  If I were Nokia I'd give some priority to this issue!  It's ridiculous!

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

I knew a lousy progammer that went to Nokia labs and did really well.

If you're expecting software with well though out and quality design, or software that is code well, then Nokia isn't then place to look.  Even their support of the existing software is poor.

For basic phones, they do fine, but in smart phone arena, they are very much lacking and falling further behind the comptetitors.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

So I fixed it, or dealt with it.  The new firmware sped up the regular non-nokia messaging imap client so I'm receiving and sending mail from the regular imap client.  It works well.  The cool thing is that my sent mail syncs with the sent mail folder on the server, so it's well done.  It also supports my server's IMAP IDLE feature, so I get notified of new emails asap if the connection has stayed alive, or every 15 mins if a reconnection was needed.

Regarding the new, pretty and quick nokia messaging app, I left it to just notify me of new mails.  So what does that mean?  Well, since I get notifications via the old imap client, the Nokia messaging client turns out to be useless.  That applies for people with TLS & plain text authenticating smtp server.  I never got it to connect to my server using IMAP either so blah.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

Is there an estimated release date for the version in which Nokia Messaging will include (Mail for) Exchange support on the E71 ?

It takes so long and is working on other phones yet ....

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

Hello,

Will this instalable Messaging 1.1 application support traditional (native "client-server" pop3/imap) email access?

Or is it only good for the Nokia Email push service?

Thanks
Gonza

Yes, essentially you specify the POP3/IMAP server details of where you want it to connect. The nokia email server then polls your email server and when you get a new messages instantly pushes it out to your handset.

This client essentially has more features than the standard one built in to regular S60 devices. You also don't just need to have an "E" series handset to use it either, as I used to quite happily use it with my 6120 classic prior to trading it in on an E71.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

Thank you, it seems you did not understand the question.  Well, then the answer is "no".

I was asking about direct-to-server traditional pop3 email.  (without going thru Nokia)

What you just described is Nokia push service.

Too bad what Nokia is doing... very, very wrong.  Finally developing what it looks to be a decent email client, but forcing you pass all your mail through their servers....

so how do I get real HTML email on the E71?

Ahhh, you hadn't quite worded your oringinal question right, so I took a stab as to what you meant - obviously it wasn't right :smileytongue:

Anyhow essentially if you want direct push (with HTML) support then the integrated Nokia client won't be able to do it. (Hence why some of us use the Nokia E-Mail service).

I know profilmail (a 3rd party application) can fulfil your needs as it enables you to directly connect to a POP3/IMAP server and push your emails that way.

Otherwise there is no way to directly push with HTML support on an E71. I believe the E75 has a newer version of the client that apparently does HTML support though that certainly doesn't help things at the moment. - Hopefully Nokia actually add this client natively with a firmware/software update (on the E71) or something as recently for myself the Nokia E-Mail service has stopped working for me and I'd love to directly be able to push the messages to my handset from my exchange server.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

[ Edited ]

Thanks mickymacmi,

It is clear that Nokia is far behind competitors regarding email support...I buy an E71, targeted for corporate email use, and there are 3 different clients.. (???)  - The integrated client is useless, the new client works only with Nokia service, and MfE does not support HTML..

It is obvious what they have to do if they want to keep a foot in this market... a single, decent, email client supporting everything:  client-server email, Nokia service, Exchange, Notes. And with its address book integrated with the phone contacts....

Lets see what they changed for E72. I also think its inadmissible that they won't release these new clients as a firmware update to E71.  It makes you think that once you buy the phone, they don´t care about you anymore.

cheers

Gonzalo

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

Your concern makes sense to the end user, but not to the Nokia business model.

It would be great if the client with full HTML support would work directly against POP3 and Exchange servers, but Nokia wants you to go through their servers.  I'm guessing that in the future they will want to charge for this service.  Personally, I do not like this business model and would prefer the MS Outlook model where the client is supplied for free and the end user is allowed to choose how it works.  For now, I'll use it, even with it's flaws in acurate updates, but if they do end up chargin I will not use it and will instead use the free e-mail clients that are offerered for mail servers (such as GMail, Yahoo, etc.).

I'm thinking much the same as yourself. I'll continue to persevere with the Nokia E-Mail client but if they do start charging then I'll definitely be looking elsewhere.

I'm also interested to see what the E72 is like, though I'm most annoyed now I didn't get the E75 after all.

Re: Nokia Messaging 1.1 Released

The biggest problem I face with NMS 1.1 as my Yahoo mail & Gmail & Windows Live mail folders do not get snchronised with latest client version in my Nokia N79 V. 20.175 , APAC user. I use this service in Mumbai, India. It synchronises the mail well but the folders are not getting synchronised even after selecting them through email.nokia.com, personal account page. I have tried almost everythisng but Damn... No use. Previously there was problem with yahoo, gmail, hotmail contacts synchronisation but now its with folders. Now contacts are getting synchronised in the NMS client in my Nokia N79.

But the folders???? I dont know when Nokia is gonna resolve these critical bugs in their NMS client?

Please dont compare this service with Blackberry. Blackberry is too advanced & too professional than NMS. Hence professionals in the world rely on Blackberry & not on Nokia messaging services.
