Nokia E61 web browser:"Web: Already in Use"

My new E61 was working fine but today when I tried to access the Internet I got a "Web: Already in Use" notice and could not access it. I had to hard reformat of the phone (thanks to T-Mobile tech support)and reinstall all of my email and internet settings. I have read on several user forums that this problem has occurred with some regularity with this and other Nokia models. Obviously I do not want to reformat the phone all the time. Are there any other solutions? One user said they brought the phone into a local Nokia store for a software flash but did not say if it worked. Since I am in US, there is no local store to bring it to. Does have any ideas on how to solve this issue? Shouldn't Nokia be saying or doing something?

have you spoken with them yet? they wont speak to you through here - its a user support forum.

do you know what firmware is on the phone (*#0000#). also, what browser are you trying to use?

then you may be out of luck...

do you happen to know what browser you are using at all? is it the one that came with the phone or one you have installed yourself?

if this is all the response you get over night, i dont think many people are suffering from this - but i wait to be proven wrong...

the only advise i can give you right now is to take the battery out and try again.

unless you have another app running the the background that is trying to access or has already access the internet?

as you are in the US, you are pretty much out of luck - i sincerly doubt any engineer over there will touch this phone, plus I doubt they will have the ability to update the software at all...

if it doesnt work at all, then you should hang on for the E62. i beleive that this is a cut down version of the E61 designed for the lower tech US market

I am using the browser that came with the phone. Actually it has 2 browsers. The problem ocurred when using the traditional htm browser.

I have not had any problems in the last 3 days since the hard reboot and am hoping it is a one-time problem.

i am a e61 user, i dont get this issue. what connection method are you using? wlan, 3g, IPP etc?

This problem occurred when I was using the standard browser connecting via my T-Mobile Edge network. Interestingly, I was still able to access email through the T-Mobile network but no connection would allow the browser to open. I did not try to use the secondary browser.

I have had my E61 for 1 week and now I get this error as well Web already in use, spock to Nokia Tech support they just recommended that I return my phone for repair. My WAP under services works fine.

If I reset my phone will I lose all my applications ? I am specially worried about my Goodlink set up to my corperate Email. Has any one got a better solution yet. Have Nokia any plans to solve this bug?

I've faced the same problem with the Web: “Already In Use” and I don't know how to stop a background application on this E61.
The solution from Nokia is very comfortable: “please return back your handset”.
But as I see in this forum they will have at least three handsets returned.
Anyone knows how to contact a Nokia specialist for this issue?

To perform a hard reset, you should dial these numbers as if making a phone call:
*#7370#
You will receive the following message:
Restore all original Phone settings?
Phone will restart. If it asks for security code try 12345 which is default.
I’ve tried to perform a backup using the backup function in the operating system into my miniSD card, but after resetting “from scratch” I could not retrieve my contacts back again.
Be careful with your contacts and all the appointments.

i have had an E61 in Malaysia, happily for the last 2 months. I got the "Web: Already in use" error box, last two days.

I can still retreive emails.

If you click on a www link from a sms or other menu area the browser fires up ok and loads the web page. However I cannot then reload a new web page or access the bookmarks.

Phone calls and sms are normal.

I called Nokia Care line in Malaysia.

They suggested to switch off the phone, remove the battery and SIM card then reinsert SIM card, reattach the battery and restart. It had no impact.

They gave up and suggested "restore factory".....

sigh, it is such a nice device that has surprised me pleasantly. This is my first major problem.

The best thing you can do is BACKUP. Backup the Phone memory to your Memory Card, then: Backup both the phone's memory and the memory card to your pc's hard drive using the Nokia Suite USB cable. The same "Web: Already in Use" hit me. I did find on one of the tech developer areas something that MIGHT be a clue as to the CAUSE (no mention of a solution). That cause was, in short to not cancel processes in the browser till they end by themselves. Try to avoid using the RED button when it is taking a long time.... They thought the browser is creating a "i'm busy" flag file, then clearing it when the thing it wanted to do was complete. Aborting the browser stops the file clearing. I know we all wish the name of that file and a tool to delete or reset it whatever it takes. Till then BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP - how often? When the phone has something added since the last backup that you would be sorry to loose is the best answer..... Nokia: We love our E61's - most of us dont want to FLASH our BIOS or use the Total Reset code. Wont you please, pretty please with sprinkles on top, write a tiny little .sis file or whatever that we can run when this happens. You will earn our admiration and have all of us BRAGGING about your superb service instead of griping about this flaw in an otherwise SUPERBLY designed phone.

I just purchased the E62 via Cingular here in the States. After the third day of use, my html browser also show the "web already in use" message. However, both the MediaNet brower (Cingular's WAP browser) and Opera Mobile worked fine. I performed a hard reset and reinstalled my apps. No change. I hope someone will figure this out. Such a nice phone otherwise.

I have just had the same issue worked last night perfectly and today....web in use fault all the time. Have been happy with phone and have had it for about 4 months. There is no explaination what caused it.

Everything else is fine and the web will work on the web using a link from another mail as noted by another user.

I use my phone as a blackberry to fit in with work and the set up was quite a long process and hence am not keen to go through that again if that will be lost with hard reboot.

I live in Singapore and am in town this week hence will see if there support centre can assist. I will see how that goes.

I have had this problem now for the last few weeks. I have not done a hard reset.

There are 2 workabout solutions for me

1. There are sms in my inbox that have a url. By highlighting the url the web browser fires up. Click "options", "Navigation Options" , "go to web address" and enter the url you wish to visit.

2. From the Main Menu select "media" then "services", your list of bookmarks will appear. Select one and Open. Again "Navigation Options" , "go to web address" and enter the url you wish to visit.

Since my decision to go to Nokia's service centre I have since found this on their website in relation to terms of the warranty:

"To the extent permitted by applicable law(s), Nokia does not warrant that any Nokia software will meet your requirements, will work in combination with any hardware or software applications provided by a third party, that the operation of the software will be uninterrupted or error free or that any defects in the software are correctable or will be corrected."

The bit that concerns me is "that the operation of the software will be uninterrupted or error free or that any defects in the software are correctable or will be corrected" Does this mean they can get away with releasing any buggy software they want and don't have to really do a thing about it? From the posts this is not just me having the issue and I wonder how many are either suffering in silence, rebooting, going to Nokia service centres etc. Was this UAT tested thoroughly before release?
