I have the Nokia E5, I set up an email account with the option Other, as my email is with my isp.The configuration works, I can receive and send emails. I do not get an alert for "new emails". I have this option set up on Profiles for an alert.
I am using the Home Screen - Contacts Bar.
The only way I can check for new emails, is to go to my mailbox, click connect, and to see if there are any messages. I have to do this manually all the time.
I set the sync to 1 hour but this still does not work. So why does this new phone not work correctly.
Answers much appreciated. thank you![]()

Some questions:
(1) What is the SW version you're using? Enter (dial) *#0000# on home screen to find out.
(2) How is the “Profile” personalised , what is email alert tone? Is the Vibrating alert on or off?
If you have the Vibrating alert on, does it notify of new email?
(3) Which ISP and email provider are you using?
(4) Are you using POP3 or IMAP, or Nokia Messaging?

Please check the following settings in the activated profile (e.g. General):
- Message alert is not off
- E-mail alert tone: Other than off – This is the sound that will be heard when receiving E-mails

It's clear that Nokia don't know how their own phones work and what bugs do they have.
I found on my E5 that the e-mail notifications work ONLY for the accounts that are setup to be notified for the "Active" standby mode, no matter which standby mode is currently used. So, to have notifications, go to "Menu" -> "Ctrl.panel" -> "Settings" -> "General" -> "Personalisation" -> "Standby mode", then in "Home screen theme" select "Active", then go to down to "E-mail notifications" and select the primary and secondary e-mail accounts to be notified. Then press the "Back" softkey until you go to the home screen. Check if the notifications work. If they do work, you can switch again to the other standby modes and you will have e-mail notifications.
To Nokia - such bugs are unacceptable for production software! Please fix!

Software I updated to 42.010
The Profile is set for email alert and tone selected.
My main email account is with my isp, adsl24.co.uk. I set up this account using the link on the Home Screen (Contacts Bar) Set up email. Clicked Start, and was given several options Gmail, Yahoo, BT etc., none of these fit my requirements, so I chose Other. My incoming and outgoing servers are right mail.**************** using POP3. the option for this on the screen was POP3/IMAP thats the one I chose.
I can send emails and receiv emails on the set up, but this does not stay connected to receive alerts. I was told that is because it is pop3?
I have to click the Message button, and scroll down to the mailbox with my name on it and connect (manually) once I have read my emails and leave the mailbox, it automatically disconnects, even when I set this as the default.
I do have a gmail account, so I set up my gmail account using the the same procedure but choosing Gmail instead of other. This account works perfectly well, I receive notifications on new emails, and this stays connected until I disconnect it.
I was also told that this is Nokia Messaging, and to add my adsl24 account o this? I have no idea where to go from here.

You can have only one mailbox on the home screen when using "Contact Bar" as the Home screen theme. If you select the "Active" Home screen theme, then you can have 2 mailboxes on the home screen.

Thanks for that, still have to get my adsl24 mailbox to work with alerts

As far as I can tell with this mobile, if you use Gmail or Yahoo, BT, etc, anything thats on the list when you set up your email, you will get alerts and and the Nokia Messaging works ok.
If you want it set up for your own isp, forget it, especially if its a pop3 and uses mail.************* this does not work and will most likely not be on Nokia database. I have been told by my isp I need to set up the option for their mail servers using imap same as gmail. but the settings do not let you choose between pop3 and imap. The system is pretty useless.
I was also told to add my isp email to the Gmail account that I set up, but no instructions how to do this.

As far as I understand you need to stay connected to receive the alerts for new emails. Gmail is set up using imap and stays connected. My isp uses pop3 and does not stay connected this is the reason why no alerts for incoming mail.

Thank you for the valuable feedback. We have evaluated and repeated the issue. As you explained, the problem seems to be: If Set Up Email wizard is ran when "Contact Bar theme" is the home screen theme, no new email alerts are heard and no new email notification icons appear on the home screen. There is no problem if using "Active" home screen theme.
The issue has reported further to the development.

I had the same problem with my hotmail account. I've noticed that whenever I switched to general profile after activating silent mode, email alerts stopped working. Then one day I accidentally triggered the outdoor profile from silent and then received an email at the same time and the alert worked!!!!.....![]()
The home screen mode must be active i guess......best of luck!

I have just received my second replacement, I have set up my email and can send and receive no problem but when using an active home screen I do not get any email alerts. If I switch to contact home screen the alert is there but I do not like the look of that screen. I have tried resetting the phone and have made several calls to me network provider.

Hi all,
Has anyone come up with a solution to this? In other words, to be notified of received emails from more than 2 inboxes (the ones that can be set up at the active screen mode)?
