MMS Settings for 3 Australia

Recently I did a factory reset on my N78 and lost all my connection settings. I was able to get nearly all of them back without too much hassle, except for the MMS settings. I rang 3 care, and as expected they were no help, but I finally solved it. I figured I would post it here to save any one else the headaches I had! The steps here are for the N78, but hopefully other N-series phones aren't too different. These settings are for 3 Australia, can't tell if they will work for other countries.

First go to Tools->Settings->Connection->Destinations->Multimedia msg.

If there is already an access point there, select 'edit', otherwise, create new access point. If you are creating a new access point, call it what ever you want, I called mine 'MMS'.

Here is what it should look like:

Connection name: MMS - (or whatever you named your access point)

Data bearer: Packet Data

Access point name: 3services

User name: None

Prompt password: No

Password: **** - (There is always four stars here, but there is no password!)

Authentication: Normal

Homepage: http://mmsc.three.net.au:10021/mmsc

Use access point: Automatically

If any of the above settings are different, change them to match what is above.

Now select 'Options' and 'Advanced settings' and check the following:

Network type: IPv4

Phone IP address: Automatic

DNS addresses: Automatic

Proxy server address: mmscprox.three.net.au - (no 'http' here, just put in as I've written)

Proxy port number: 8799

NOTE: if there is not an option for the proxy port number (i.e. if your phone is not an N78 or similar), then enter the proxy server adress as 'mmscprox.three.net.au:8799'

Now these settings are correct, go to the main menu and select 'Messaging'

Click 'Options' scroll down to 'Settings' and select 'Multimedia message'

The only option here of any critical importance is the 'Access point in use' option. All the rest can be set as per your own personal preferences.

Select Acess point in use and click on the access point you have just created. If you can't see it in the list, you may need to restart the phone.

Voila, your done. Hopefully, now you can send and receive MMS.

I hope this helps someone out there! :smileyhappy:

Re: MMS Settings for 3 Australia

Hi there

I  have a Nokia Prism 7900 and I can not access mms messaging despite having Nokia Care point assess the phone by replacing the IMEI and my provider (T-Mobile) having tried to set up online as well as over the phone!  I tried the equivalent of your suggestions but still has not worked probably because I do not know the equivalent of the following - Access point name, homepage, network type, proxy server address and proxy port number.  Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Myrna

Re: MMS Settings for 3 Australia

If you can't get the correct settings from your service provider, I would try to find someone you know who uses the same service provider and has MMS working on their phone and copy their settings.

Re: MMS Settings for 3 Australia

Thanks,

I do not know of anyone else who has a Nokia Prism 7900 but will try to find someone who is on T-Mobile with same phone as yours and try to copy their settings.

Cheers!
