Impact of using Nokia Messaging on Outlook files saved on Laptop

Hi. New to this. I'm thinking of buying N85, and using Nokia Messaging to access my e-mail. I want to ensure that any e-mails that I (a) read (b) send via N85 will still get stored on my laptop (Oulook.pst) when I sync with my e-mail provider. This is not hotmail or anything "Cloud-based". I know if I access my e-mail via my providers webmail, any e-mails I send are not synced with my outlook.pst file. Will this be true if I use Nokia's push e-mail? I am a small business owner, so no IT support. Thanks. E

Re: Impact of using Nokia Messaging on Outlook files saved on Laptop

Hello,

I have a similar setup (Nokia Messaging, E71, Outlook and Gmail) and I've found that Read/unread status', deletes and sent items are all synchronized from end-to-end (from Outlook to Gmail to Nokia Messaging and vice versa).  Everything stays in sync from the device to Outlook and everything in between.  However, please keep in mind that I am using Outlook with IMAP as opposed to Outlook with POP, so I don't know if this functionality pertains to Outlook clients using Gmail's POP configuration.

Unfortunately my e-mail is POP3. From further reading, it sounds like I will have a problem with Nokia Messaging (or any other) given this. If this is not the case please let me know, otherwise I will have to forget about using Nokia Messaging for now. Thanks.

For POP3, Nokia Messaging only synchronizes Inbox and deletes to and from the email server.  However, IMAP might be enabled on your email server, so it may be worth contacting your mail administrator to find out if you can access your email over the IMAP protocol.  If so, you'll just need to configure Outlook with the IMAP email settings and you'll be good to go.
