I recently updated the firmware on my E71 to the latest. I now have an issue where the email and SMS notifications on the home page periodically disappear. Once the notification icons have disappeared, I need to restart my device in order to get the icons back again. This never happened with the old firmware.
Is this happening to anyone else? Thank you.

Sounds like an software issue..
Perhaps you may wanna try reinstall the firmware on your phone or do the following:
- A soft reset by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a hard reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345

@vboriraj
I have the same problem. Switchin a notification off and on again solves it temporarily.But it is really annoying. Especially because the indicator for e-mail in the top right corner (the @) sometimes doesn't work either. We're not the only ones by the way. In a Dutch forum there are plenty of E71 users with the same problem. My FW version is 200.21.118 on a unbranded E71-1(01)

Did the most recent firmware update solve this problem for anyone who had it? I tried reinstalling the firmware per the suggestion and I still have the same problem.
It's a hassle to upgrade and the last one broke more than it fixed so I'm a little cautious about doing the next one.

No it didn't
I also still have the same problem.
I am really disappointed in Nokia's capability to fix something as small as a notification bug. Something that shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. Especially as these notifications were one of the features on the UI on this phone.
I guess I will have to go and check out the Palm Pre once it arrives. I have had multiple Nokia's (10+), but the whole S60 seems to have passed its due date.

I think I may have solved the problem for my phone. I switched my main email account to Nokia Messaging (we just switched our provider to gmail) and now my phone has been working normally for the last two days. I think the problem may have been related to the number of messages in my inbox when I was using the native POP client.
Unfortunately, I never did find a good way to manage the number of messages in my inbox such as "delete older than x days" Hope this helps.
