E71 IMAP Email Problem

Hello friends...
I have configured IMAP on my Nokia E71(for my personal email www.netaddress.com). All the settings have gone fine. It successfully sends email and subscribes to folders aswell but when it checks to retrieve the incoming emails it does not actually retrieve the emails and hence shows nothing in the inbox.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Which email do you use? I use gmail, had to go to gmail.com on a pc, configure and enable IMAP on the gmail settings page.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

I use www.netaddress.com. It is a paid service. IMAP is already enabled on this service. I don't need to enable or activate it.
I am just trying to configure IMAP on Nokia E71. As mentioned earlier all the setting go fine. It even sends the email and successfully subscribes for selected folders but it doesn't retrieve incoming email....

Thank you

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Have you checked the incoming port numbers with the ones your provider suggest? also make sure the port option is set to SSL/TLS and not Start TLS

Check these options and give me a shout back if you need further help

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Hi.. Ive signed up to their site and run a few test and have concluded that using the default ports for incoming [SSL/TLS Port 993] and outgoing [StartTLS Port 25] I've had no issue with sending and recieving emails to and from my other accounts else where.. I would suggest removing the mailbox entierly from your phone and starting over to make sure the settings are correct.

Keep me upto date

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

I have exactly the same problem as Tuberoses - I can download headers via IMAP but when I ask the phone to retrieve the body of the email, it connects to the mailbox but doesn't actually retrieve anything further.

I am trying to access emails received on my own domain's server (which is hosted externally) but the provider has confirmed IMAP is all set up on the server and as far as I am aware I don't have any port or security issues. So I don't think it's a server problem however I would be grateful for any advice anyone could suggest.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

I also meant to say - my "email to retrieve" options are limited to headers only. There is no other option to allow any other part of the email to be retrieved - is there another setting elsewhere that I need to adjust?

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Hi... what ports are you using for the IMAP they should be the standard incoming 993 SSL and outgoing 25 StartTLS

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Hi - thanks for the quick reply!

I have ports sent to "default" and security is set to "off" at the moment. If I try to use the phone's security options then I cannot connect to my email server.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Check with your provider to see if they have Secure IMAP enabled [Uses SSL Ports] if they dont then ask what ports they are using and edit accordingly

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

I just checked and the default ports are 993 and 25 but selecting the security options stops me connecting to the server.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Just to keep you updated - the port info is OK, no security levels are in place and yet the problem still persists. Headers but no emails.

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Another way around this is one I have used for a while and that is to signup for a gmail account and under the settings tab add your email to the accounts page.. at and confirm it.. then forward your mail from your providers account to the gmail box.. this allows you to send and receive mail directly from there with over 6GB of storage

On the phone you can then set the reply to option under outgoing settings to your providers address and it will show as sent from that address.. gmail is simple and free to use also it is very easy to setup with nokia.. all you need todo is set the IMAP on in the account settings page

Let me know how you got on

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Removed the email account, switched off and then switched the phone back on again. I set up the email account once more and sent a test mail to the server from my laptop.

I connected to the server via the phone and found the new email as a downloaded header. I asked to retrieve the email and saw the "updating mailbox" dialogue box but it still didn't download the email.

I am really scratching my head here. I have succesfully set up the email account on the phone previously but now it doesn't seem to work. I have also updated the firmware to the current version for the model and have repeated the delete and reinstall email account procedure as described above.

I confess I'm stumped :smileysad:

Re: E71 IMAP Email Problem

Hello Friends
I am still facing the same issue. I deleted all the accounts.Restarted the phone and created a new setup with following settings but result is same i.e. it doesn't show me inbox/incoming emails but it sends emails successfully and also subscribes to folders successfully
Incoming server: imap.postoffice.net (SSL,993)
Outgoing : smtp.postoffice.net (Start TLS,25)

There is nothing rocket science in it I don't know what is causing this problem.
