E7 & Anna Gmail MfE Synch keeps asking for Password

I just upgraded a friend's E7 to Anna and tried to set up a Gmail contacts and calendar synch through it's Mail for Exchange client (one of the few things that worked really well on my E6) - and after starting to synch and having synched ~half of the contacts, it starts asking me for the MfE password, I enter it, a few seconds later it asks again and so on. Have to cancel and start over, same result. Tried ~15 times, always the same.

 

Connection is through my home's WLAN, reception is excellent, also for 3G/GSM.

 

I found other threads recommending to disagree Nokia's Ts & Cs and set the client up manually, but I'm never being asked for any Ts & Cs.

 

Did anyone run into the same problem, and is there any solution?
