Hmm .. this just SUX.
I tried to setup an IMAP account from scratch using the built-in "Nokia Messaging" (NM) that I understand is the substitute for the MFE application.
I entered my "true" email into NM (I pop my other email accounts into gmail and use their emails instead of my gmail account). It chewed on it for a while and let me choose a pop/IMAP account. I entered the Gmail IMAP details that worked and gave me true push on my old 99 cent Sony Ericsson :-/
I then entered Options / Settings / Mailbox Settings / When To Sync
In the Update Interval I can see that it's possible to choose between:
* an interval. (Anywhere between 5 min to 1 day)
* manual
* After notification.
Now the last one sounded a lot like push right? Well. It wasnt. At least thats not how it works. It seems to be another word for "manual" as it only works if you enter the the inbox of this e52 account and hit the "9" button. But then it actually works. It seems to be faster than the E52 Gmail account thats configured automatically. Just a shame it doesnt PUSH.
Anybody figured out what "After Notification" is for? Nokia forgot to document it anywhere. Even in the old MFE documentation "after notification" is not mentioned.
I also tried the "5 minutes" sync. Well. It also only works when the inbox is open on the E52. So don't bother with that.
Did they even bother to test this stuff before they released it?
Another thing I hate is the difference in menu options between the Gmail account setting, my IMAP account and the MFE account for google contacts/calendar. I've never seen such a mess. I'm a developer and are very comfortable when configuring this sort of infrastructure, but when options are withheld or renamed and not documented, its impossible or close to guesswork fixing this **bleep**.
3 days into an E52 and I long for my old 99 cents Sony Ericsson. Stuff just kinda worked. This is my first Nokia in 5 years. Are ALL Nokias this bad?
Regards
Lars

FWIW, I just got my E52 today and noticed this annoying bug too. My list of E52 bugs is growing fast. Nokia have their work cut out for them!
Did you contact Nokia about this BTW?

Hi acrg,
No - havent contacted Nokia about this. From what I understand they don't read these forums either...
And thanks for backing me up in that other thread, with some substantial evidence on the NM vs IMAP thread.
